I use cocktail sticks for these like this, and the beauty of being wooden you can even sand them thinner if need, blue tack on the other end and there you have a little base to hold items clear and upright while you paint or wait to use them.

Is that the kits chain? seems that was missing from mine when i openned the box, the little bag was ther but no chain!

Looking at the last photo the with the anti-torpedo nets out, wonder if that ever made fishing off the deck any easier?

Well after reading your Emden build i now found this one, i bought the Seydlitz about three weeks ago, and thinking about the Infini etched set for it, going have to put my pennies away, but seeing the end rescults of your builds you are a master!

Hi all, just wanted to say hello, i hail from England, getting on a bit now, 60 years young, have been modelling since i was a kid, yes we all remember those Airfix kits, but only got back in to the hobby when i was around 40yr, always had an intrest in World War one aircraft, built Airfix again and of course Eduards kits, even got my hands on some Wingnut Wing kits, one days i will get around to building. But also love ships so over the last few years i have been building those, some scratchbuilt in 1/350th scale, they are not works of art but i like them, i have three jobs that take up a lot of my life and find it hard to do anything never mind modelling, stress and metal health problems last year forced me to get back into doing some modelling to relax me after a long days working, and i feel a lot better for it, so i started building the Revell SMS.Emden and that brought me to this shores.

Started building the Emden and looking for information on her, and came across this site, so signed up, i know i have come late on the scene but got to add my praise to this build, just amazing detail you have put in it, and thanks for picking up the flaws with some of the aftermarket add on's. As for the guns, i went for 3 d printed ones for mine, just waiting for them to arrive.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
