  1. I do guess there are many ways to do it, but how does the build process look for you? Do u always start from page 1 in the instruction manual and work through everything in the "right order" or do you jump randomly back and forwards in the plans? Do you work on several kits in parallel?
  2. I am guessing the ships wasnt build in walnut and decked in tangika back in the days. What would the the correct "colour" of unpainted details and what Wood should be used to give the most accurate woodlook of hull, masts and deck?
  3. Thanks all for your great knowledge in this. I already have the AOTS Victory and will certainly look for more books in this series. I will also follow both your alternative builds. They are amazing and far beyond my skills. But at the same time you give me great inspire
  4. Amazing to see and thanks for sharing. Diana is top on my wishlist if I ever finish my current builds. Just a question which you might have some knowledge about since you decided to convert Diana. As i understand they built 9 frigattes in the same style: Artios, Diana, Clyde, Tamar, Jason, Seahorse, Diamond, Apollo and this one. Do you know the major differences between these ships and do you recommend trying to do one of the others instead of sticking with the Diana version? I have already seen another building the Jason also, and it got me curious.
  5. Small update... Working with 2nd planking in two directions.
  6. Well "Easy" might be the wrong word... "manageble" might be better
  7. My Victory is basically set. It will look like a wasp similar to the original, besides from the yellow might not be completely correct. My Snake will be similar in style but with red carronades. After that I am not sure. I dont think my models need to be accurate. I just want them looking good, accurate enuff , and with some variation so that each one feels unique but being part of a series.
  8. A model around 50 to 100cm is easy to put on display. Ships over 150cm will be really difficult to fit anywhere in a house. Also remember it will increase in width...
  9. I think i have enough walnut with quality for it.. the question is what is better looking.. dark or light ?
  10. I am only painting it as on the box with some black and white. So there will be plenty of wood seen.. i got lots of photos of how it will be in boxwood but less in walnut
  11. Its not the just the size, its the cost of the kits as well. Basically everything with more than 20 guns would be difficult to sell if they came in 1:48. Most are not even in 1:64. For smaller ships i could agree with the argument though
  12. And now to the most difficult decision, so please help me out! Should I stick with the walnut in the kit or order some boxwood for the 2nd planking? Anyone got any good photos of the kit made in walnut?
  13. A couple of ships it would be nice to have also in 1:64 are HMS Bellona and HMS Unicorn. Also a pity Amatis HMS Vanguard is not in 1:64.
  14. I am building several ships in this series. In one way i want my ships to be consistent but at the same time i want variation. Kind of boring to paint everything exactly as the classical Victory look: Black, yellow, and copper. So do you have any suggestions on alternative looks? Please add photos.
  15. Personally, I prefer to build everything in the same scale. I will probably stick with 1:64 now. To me it will takes tens of years before i run out of Cadercraft ships to do. So far they kind of have lots for everyone in the Nelson series: 100 guns, Victory 64 guns, Agememnon 38 guns, Diana about 20 guns, Snake, Crusier, Mars, Jauluse Bombvessels lots of smaller ships What is missing from this lineup besides a 1:64 Victory ;-)? Something that would be interesting would to add additional kits where you could turn your kit into a similar "sister ship". I am sure that with small changes you could actually build another as we seen various example of in this forum.
  16. I think they have quite many, but what surprise me was that they just stopped with the Nelson's Navy series. They released alot of New vessels regurlarly but then there where nothing. The Jotika webpage also freezed. Old Project ideas are still there.
  17. I was young and naive when i started my first kit... HMS Victory... dont do the same mistake as I. Even through you might build it, its not impossible. But why wasting a kit like that when you dont have any experience? Its better that u save it for later and make a perfect model. U dont want to remake it once finished. HMS Snake is a Good beginners model if u som 4 something more advanced.
  18. Well, looking at this model compared to mine is like seeing Roger Federer playing a kid... amazing!
  19. As i understand, Caldercraft in 1:72 is currently the largest and most detailed kit so far. They didnt do it in 1:64 As their other kits since it would be so huge. It will be really interesting to see what Amati comes up with. Probably alot of wifes will complain, once we get hold of it...lol
  20. OMG... thats alot!
  21. Nelson's HMS Victory is probably the most popular modelship around I would guess. I am currently rigging my own. So how many kits can you choose between and which one do you recommend and why? Some i have noticed are: Corel in 1:98 Caldercraft in 1:72 Amanti in 1:64 (unreleased, but might come out)
  22. I would prefer to build various ships in the exact same scale just so they look nice and correct next to each others. Caldercrafts Nelson Navy series is mostly the same. However, I do think that one reason that most manufactures differ so much is that modelships tend to be displayed alone and then they tend to suite best in a certain size. And if a ship becomes too large it is difficult to decorate your living Room with it. For example, even Caldercraft decided to not go with 1:64 for HMS Victory. Yes, it would had been a really impressive model, but would it be practical?
