    Hi
here are photos of the progress before the long break.

You can see the first attempt at the first photo based on the MSW drawings. Afterwards it was clear to me that the Frame-Drawings were not suitable for a single frame build.

If I fit the transoms I had a big trouble. The reason was a wrong angle at the top-view plan.
On the following photo you can see the correct angle and the discrepancy.

If I know that it was possible to fit transoms.

    Hi Daniel

My Triton isn't parked but the Leopard   . Currently I fit the afterwards Frames at the Triton but I'm a very slow model builder. I believe that all Frames are fitted at the end of Oktober.
But now one question to your build. I'm not really shure, but could it be that the upper and lower timber at the first Gunport must be fitted as you can see of the following picture?

    Hello All!

Thanks Juergen, Beatiful progress you´re making on the Leopard. I progress slower than you. Are you going to drop the HMS Triton or is it temporary "parked"? It´s the only one "as designed", please don´t do it! (leave it)

After the big discover about the number of gunports I have decided to leave it there, glue the ceilings and plank the whole area. I was thinking about planking it anyways.

I have been all this morning with gunport no.#1 and I´m pretty sattisfied with the result. It is beveled on both frames aft and fore... quite tricky.

Here are the pics! I know there is a lot of them for a single detail but it took me a while and as I said it´s tricky and the plans don´t show it in its complexity. The next days I will sand the wale and paint it. I´ll make some trials with srap wood first, we´ll see...

    Hello Hello!

The gunports are almost completed. Two more to go one on the aft and another on the fore... I managed myself to build a shelf for the ship. My workshop is quite small and it´s a way of having the ship always tidy and my table clean to work with other things plus more room for the machines.

I was looking the plans and counting the gunports... and I was counting fourteen on the ship and thirdteen on the plans...Of course I thought to myself the plans were wrong not My Triton. 13 vs 14teen, 13, 14, 14, 13... And the plans ARE RIGHT!! I have had tue gunport cut since post #170 18th June. No small mistakes here in this hobby.

    Remember! Thirdteen gun ports!!

    Here´s a bunh of pics...

You can see obiously there´s is something odd with the gunport but I just thought... I do not know what I thought, I was having fun cutting the scarfs and the ceilings. Back to cut with the scroll saw.

    Best wishes!

I believe Guy (The Leaner) and I (and possibly others) have frames 27 and 28 incorrect. I blame it on the frame jig. ;-)  These frames turn inward at the stern if you lay them in using the jig. In reality they need to go almost straight back in line with frame 26 and the outer stern timbers. Daniel got it right - good job Daniel!
To fix mine I had to “break the bones” of the top 1/3 of the frames and re-set them at the proper angle. This, of course makes for a nasty looking frame piece but this area is merely a support structure for planking so no one will ever know.  I had to add some extra wood to the outside edge of frame 28 and will need to do a lot of grinding to the inside portion of that frame as well to make it all line up. Wish I would have caught that sooner. On a side note, I do not have a problem with the bulge that was discuss in a different forum topic. This seems to be just a matter of sanding correctly, not the fault of the drawing.
In the below pictures there are before and after shots from above to show the difference. The last one is Wang’s model with arrows showing the mistake, er, incorrectness. All will line up correctly after planking so pardon the odd bends and warped look to the whole thing. Bending wood into the final shape you want is part of the process for me. I couldn't cut a straight line if my life depended on it. ;-)
Just thought I would get that out there to help other folks who might not notice until too late.

    Richard

    Hola a todos! Hello All!

Hope July is treating all of you ok!

Finally I have almost complete the main wale... I´ve been planking and making the joinery for the gun ports at the same time. I have also started with the stern post. Let´s see how the work will come out in this another tricky part of the "building".

    Here some pics,,,

And these are my first LD beams. It´s amazing that small camber on them.

    Just a try. I couldn´t resist...

And here´s the upper counter rail. Instead of boiling it I left it on water (in 2lt bottle of coke i.e.) for 24h or more. Then I clamped it using a jig and let it dry for more than 3 days.

    And that´s all for now...

Guy, That ship it´s called Franky Boy!

Richard, I´ll be posting more pdf´s soon. I just make them when I need them, If you need some specyfically on the stage you´re right now just ask it for. No problem at all. I do enjoy to work on CAD.

Hey Ray! It´s Sierra Vista close to Mesa Verde? I spent a whole year there, at Mesa Verde, back on ´92!

    Hi again!

I don´t Know what is happening with the camera but all the pics look kind of blurry... I´ll clean the lens.

Here are some pics of how I make the lower deck beams and my pdf.

I use a rasp to sand the up side and the down one.

Here´s the pdf. I have copied it from the plans are available.

    Hello All!

I am just tired of posting nothing since a while... lots of work and studing to become a taxidriver... yep. An architect driving a taxi!! And of course "Spain it´s Different" so it looks like you have to be an ingeneer to just drive a taxi. Totally crazy.

Anyway, here are some pics of what I just can do. No dust no woodwork, only marking with pencil the main wale and the guns. Really tough work... measuring and measuring again and again.

here they are (it´s a really small update)

    Hello all  annd happy days!

Some pics... i´ll try to add some words tomorow. Here´s 2:15 in the morning... back from the same pub with old good friends like the other day... For me is still satuday...

The scotch tape stuck to the hull. I draw a rough line with pencil.

I put it on a paper and stick another layer of scotch tape so as not to erase the pencil.

I glue the "wood pattern" to another piece of wood with PVA. leave it dry for 12-24 hours clamping both. By boiling them the pieces will separate almost inmediatly and you can remove the PVA glue with a sharp blade like butter.

I set the piece just to see where I have to sand more or less the scarf. I will not glue the whole clamp till all the different pieces are done.

this pic is just to "know" if the platforms are aligne and level. I have not thousands but hundreds of "control pictures" that help me to see if I´m working in the right direction. what a camera can see is sometimes much more accurate than the human eye.

Hope you have had a good weekend!

    Hello All!

And when I say all I mean it. Those who click on the “like” tab and the ones those actually write something. Richard!! Glad to see your Triton growing and growing and mini-you going smaller and smaller with all that frames above you.

After doing some surgery with the platform, cleaning all that glue and removing like eight carlings, the refurnished piece looks good to me.

I have moved to do the “floor doors” for the fish and spirituous drinks. The wood for the frames is blood wood (2x3.5mm). The cover is ramin (0.6mm thick) and the transoms underneath walnut (2x2). These transoms are not going to be visible but God sees everything…

I have tried Ed´s method to simulate the caulking mixing the glue with dark acrylic paint and it worked out! I rasp the excess of glue with a sharp file just on the visible side.

I made a sketch of what I´m intended to do. The hinges will need some thinking but probably I´ll cheat and make them with evergreen plastic stuff. I have no equipment and room to be soldering around. Photoetched parts? I´d love to do them but I´m kind of broke and the etched parts are not cheap.

    Here are some shots.

This last one is from one of the kitties haunting little mousses. I could not resist to put this pic dealing with the fish room and the limber right now on the Triton. Not everything is wood and timber…

Hello and happy Monday! (Written in the morning)

After finishing the aft platform for the fish and the spirituous drinks I am moving to do the magazine. I have been thinking a lot during the construction of this platform. With all that amount of pieces and mortises to be done I´m going to “cut” a little bit the project cause I´m not sure if I´ll end it in 2018…

Anyway I have redone the magazine plan this morning. The big difference is that I have divided the magazine boxes in four instead of five. I am not sure if I am going to make the cabins so I´ll attach two plans, one with the structure and the other with the beams and the plant of the cabins… I´m much more interested in the structure than the inner rooms.

    Here is the pdf´s.

    .- no cabins: Decks_fore_popa_plattform_V02_ok.pdf

    .- with cabins: Decks_fore_popa_plattform_V02__cabin_ok.pdf

Joss here´s the pic about those tricky pieces of the LwDeck clamps. They have been unglued for almost a week and they have held the shape.

Monday bloody afternoon Monday! (U2) could be a version..))

Afternoon, I have finished the platform. The result is totally awful on the joints. A disaster.

I will repeat the whole piece. Will not work again with that backward method. What works for someone does not always work for everyone. You go totally blind on the visible side. That´s it. That´s the question. To be or not to be… Three days to the trash bin.

I want to see the glue going into the carlings and them going into the ledges and the ledges into the beams.

    Anyway here´s the pics...

I´ll go this way. mortices in a 3x2mm sq timber can be done and I wil work seeing the whole piece from above.

    Daniel.

    Hello hello!

Today is friday, is party here in Spain. The Constitution day.  Three days ahead with the Admiral and the kids around… Worst enemies for a modeler.

I have started the aft platform just to “forget” a little bit the tedious work with the limber strakes and the thick stuff. Soon I have realized that only this little platform is a model kit itself… 36 pieces and 58 scarfs… I repeated the lodging knees twice mainly because the scarfs. How I envy you guys with those sherline or proxxon machines!! I´m using an x-acto blade and a rasp.

I am using Antony´s (1:36 Victory cross section) method for the platform. To do it backwards. One goes blind. I am not sure how the joints are working in the other side caused I cannot see them and it´s the part that is going visible. Let´s see how it works out. I am using this cause the platform is “flat”. Do not know how will work with the camber beams of the rest of the decks.

I have also start with the lower deck clamp to strength the hull in the half of her.

The piece is quite tricky. It´s bend it in two directions. First I tape the part with scotch tape (that kind you can write on it with a pencil). Then I drew the pattern. Cut, sanded it and boiled in water for about 15 minutes. Then I let it dried in a sort of jig for 24 hours. It took me two days to glue both in place.

I am going for a walk with the sailors and the Admiral.

    Enjoy the day!

    Daniel.

    Hellooo All!

Ken and Voron, and for all...

The pdf´s I have attached are just work that works for me. If it is helpful for you it´s fine but I insist are just drawings that I make to myself and on this particular project. The porpused of that symetrical patterns is just to Know where I have to sand in the oppsite side (mirror) from the start board. I do not Know if I answer your question Ken. I guess not maybe.

Anyway, I´m still alive (Thanks God) and Kicking "o como sea"...

I´m pretty tired today. and kind of drunk after so many pints!

    Hello All!

I have finished the drafting of the lower deck. I´ve used AOS HMS Diana to “inspire” me. I have done two versions, one with carlings in the middle of the horizontal axis (“X”) and another one with none. I think It looks stronger the V_01 version. I guess would be easier to do version two with no ledges in the middle. Do not know what to do. What do you think?!

The pdf´s are non-scaled. When I´ll take the decision I´ll attach them on 1:48 as I did before with the fore and aft plattforms.

I have omitted all the cabins. I´ll draw them this weekend. I was much more excited about the structure of the deck than the final fittings. That´s why I have not detailed the hatches frames or the ladderways.
