Mirabell61 got a reaction from Martin W in HMS Pegasus 1776 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:64 - 16-gun sloop
Doing the guns in repeatable mode saves some time, once the method is on track...
My work desk is quite a mess, since I have my own room and do`nt have to clean up during the day, and I still have 4 more to do.
Am thinking of adding small wooden splints to the axis close to the wheels, but shall do that as last Action
Nils
Trial #1, small wire Pins secure wheels on axis
Trial #2, small wooden splints hold back the wheels (I prefer this Version)
Gun builders desk
have 10 done so far, 4 more to go..

I`ve been busy this afternoon Popeye,
those guns are so small and there are first 3 finished out of 14 in total to be built..., but I trust the production is well repeatable by now
Nils
fits easy on 1/2 a thumb

I agree Popeye, good idea,
the gun Lifting / changing Detail would be for an action-type Diorama. It could be inspiring for the diorama builders here on MSW.
Nils
wheels attached now, I think I should`nt put more to it...

Interesting Nils -- so what does the barrel actually rest upon? I'm going to have to go back and study your photos some more.
Thanks for the info.

Hi Omega,
Thank you very much for your appreciative words.
I built two tallships nearly simultainiously. The "Gorch Fock" was completed first and many experienced "how to do tasks" could be adopted and tried out for my "Pamir" build, which completed appr. two months later

Hi Martin,
transom is understood, but no, not included. I just left it away as the barrel requires some space in the carriage front and the transom would not be visable from above anyhow

Hello Nils, and thank you for the nice comments. They keep me motivated.
Yes, the sliding keel (or is it a centerboard?) is located on a hinge pin, and a deck winch (non-functional) moves it into or out of the keel.
Thanks again for checking in!

Many thanks to all who had fun in following along this build log,
thanks for all the kind comments, your "likes", questions, and suggestions made. If there remain any questions, please feel free to ask, I shall be pleased to give answers.
It was a pleasure and very encouraging for me to share the making of this ship to all who like this 3-mast barque, and possibly it may encourage the one or other to consider it for their own build / Project list
THANK YOU
all last adjustments have been made to the rigging
the decks have been cleaned up
and scrubbed
and she find her honorable place in her own glasscase, protected from dust
and set up in my Hobby office
Auf Wiedersehen...

What a lovely build John,
it is a delight to see this model, wonderful lines, and the cradle also Looks superbe !
Is the centerboard (dark space on keelup pic) workable ?

Wayne, Jay, thank you for the encouragement.
I did a bit more today; added the side mouldings (is that what they are??) using some model RR basswood. Next, the hull was sealed with lacquer and sanded, then I carved the bowsprit from sitka spruce and did a rough fit.

Hi Nils. I hadn't realised that you're building this model as well as the Pegasus! Both models are seriously impressive and indicative of your talent and craftsmanship.
Well done. You're amazingly talented!
All the best.

Mirabell61 reacted to Martin W in HMS Fly by Martin W - Amati/Victory Models - 1/64
Nils -- My understanding (from the diagram in FFM 1) is that the transom is the piece of wood forming the front of the carriage, with a concavity cut to cradle the gun barrel. It would also provide support and spacing for the carriage sides.
Cheers,
Martin

Mirabell61 reacted to Martin W in HMS Fly by Martin W - Amati/Victory Models - 1/64
Aha, Spy! I thought those carriages looked as though they'd been modelled after the kit carriages, copying their lines onto the walnut. But what really threw me were the eye bolts. I guess I hadn't thought even that cheap-o metal would be soft enough to drill.
Nils -- did your RB carriage kits come complete with the transom, or how did you resolve that lack?
Cheers,
Martin

Mirabell61 got a reaction from Martin W in HMS Fly by Martin W - Amati/Victory Models - 1/64
Yes correct Martin,
the RB Barrels are offered in different lengths. I chose the 32 mm length to fit the 20 mm Long carriages.
RB also offers small kits each comprising 4 Gun-Barrels and 4 carriages at a fair price

That's interesting Nils. I actually ordered the 29 mm barrels from, following the lead of Blue Ensign. Now I wish I had also ordered some at the 32mm length, just to do a comparison. Isn't the RB barrell 32mm?
Cheers,
Martin

Hi Martin,
I used RB carriages for mine as well, together with the 32mm Long 6-pounder gunbarrels. The Pivot Point of the gun Barrel does not come too high with those, so they wo`nt foul the upper inner gunport opening edge
