  1. Hi shipmates,
I finished today to coppering my Connie with copper-tape. I used a poncewheel in the rear face of the tape, to relief the heads of the rivets.
Now the problem is to make old the copper.

I tried with 30% hydrochloric acid only, with ammonia only, hydrogen peroxide, and sodium hypochlorite

Best results is using first a cotton swab with 30% hydrochloric acid, followed by a second swab with ammonia.

The contact time of the acid -swab must be short, otherwise it corrodes the copper. (first test upward)

Immediately after you have to put ammonia with another cotton swab.

I did several tests (as in the photo) and it can get a nice blue-green shades....

During tests, I've seen smoke after the contact between acid and ammonia. Don't breathe it, because it is toxic.

  2. There is no question about the quality of the books sold by ANCRE.

    Shipping service may be inefficient.

I bought n. 1 volume of 74-guns, The Art of Modelism, and Cavalier della salle, and arrived in 7-8 days from the payment.

I bought The Cigne last days of July and it arrived in November.

I wrote Mr Didier Berti and He said me that ordinary postal service from France to Italy in summertime, is very slow.

I believe that it is true, expecially for italian postal service.

  3. What I meant is that there are types of haemostats very delicate, without serrations, flat. We need to work on delicate blood vessels, imagine if they are not sensitive to our hobby.
Let's say that it is a bit expensive surgical instruments, but in my case for example, I can use old devices from the operating room where I work (I am a surgeon), they are old and used, but they are perfect for my uses

  4. You guys are right - it is somewhat satisfying to spend forever on a detail that may eventually be totally hidden.  At least I know it was done with care, if a little inefficiently.  No matter, at least it got done.

It helps me a lot to set realistic goals for the day.  Sunday was good - I achieved installing the deck supports and the mast framing.

Next goal - cut and and properly the 4 support stanchions for the lower deck.  This will be tricky (for me) as the neither end is square since both the bottom and top are curved surfaces, yet I want the stanchions to be perfectly vertical.  If anyone has tips on ensuring a vertical stanchion, I'm all ears.  Much less making 4 line up with each other in the vertices of a rectangle.

Probably the problem can be solved by plywood-profile, cutted on the ship drawings . If you see the drawing plans, you have the right inclination of the inner side of the ship. You can cut a plywood-profile, with one side on the middle vertical line of the ship, the base on the floor of the ship, the external profile on the stanchions, and the ceiling such as upper side. When you have this profile, you can adjust it in the center line, and support the stanchions on the external side of the profile.

  5. I phoned to Ufficio Cerimoniale della Marina Militare di La Spezia.

The next public open visit of Ship Vespucci, could be November 4, Armed Forces Day, and March 19, San Joseph Day Patron Saint of La Spezia.

(it must be confirmed, because cost containment.)

Another possibility can be to organize a group visit, by a group of international ship modellers, for example, and ask for authorization to Navy.
