Hello Tim! Sorry for the two month delay in response, I didn’t see you had commented until now. I’m using titebond II for the majority, and modeling super glue for small pieces that can’t easily be held down with a clamp or nails. also I thought a bit about what paint I wanted to use, but since this is my first model I decided to play it safe and I ordered the occur paint that the model kit recommended for the build. We’ll see if I stick with it as I come closer to painting more of the ship! have you started on your model yet?

Its been really cool seeing the ship really take its shape with planking on the hull though. I feel like this is the major step in the building process, Ill be curious to see what stage of the build I find the most difficult looking back. Does anyone have any suggestions for finding some dogs at 1:70 scale? Id love to have a few in the dog kennels up on deck when the model is completed. Im not sure if im just not using the correct words in my google search or if im just asking for something that doesnt exist! Any help would be appreciated on that (or even some men at 1:70 scale) Still not sure how "accurate" of a build Im going to do for this build or if im just going to keep it simple since its my first kit. I think ill flesh that out more once I start work on the deck fixtures! Thanks everyone

Hello! I can see why a ship kit build can take someone so long! Time flys It’s been about a month since my first post and I’d like to think I’ve made some good progress. Again this is my first kit I’ve done, so I know it’s not perfect! I’d like to think I’m doing pretty ok so far though. Almost done planking the first layer of the hull, Let me know if there is anything that jumps out at you as a red flag! Some of the pictures sure make it look worse than irl.

Hello! By the insane chance of stars aligning my endurance model kit arrived at my doorstep last night and this morning I woke up to news of the REAL Endurance wreck being discovered! That must give me some kind of goodluck right? This will be my second attempt at a model ship, I purchased a kit for 20$ at an estate sale for a ship called the Dallas a while back. When I tried to build it all the planking strips were so brittle and old I ended up realizing I’d be better off starting with a newer fresher kit as my first real try. recently at work we had some extra scraps so I made myself a quick modeling table, I hope I don’t grow out of it too quickly and I’m excited to start!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
