Anyone reading this with concern over getting what you pay for. Mantua is the worst fail I have had the displeasure of wasting my money on. all of the quality wood that was promised was not present. Occre has their own issues. Of driving up prices and making fake “Black Friday” sales. But at least you get what they say you will get. mantua/panart/sergal. Oh my what a disappointment….bordering on theft.
-
Do not trust mantua. I bought a kit based on pdf of the parts list. Spent good money on a panart kit. What came in the box no way represented the quality promised and does not match the published parts list. Most of the wood was not as promised. Replacing all the walnut with basswood and for a couple of parts plywood… TO BE CLEAR THESE ARE NOT INTERNAL PARTS. These changes are for external finish parts. Basswood and plywood being substituted for walnut. The company Mantua/Panart/Sergal do not represent the change anywhere ahead of the taking your money. The documentation in the box, the instructions and pats list are left as is. misrepresenting the contents. TL:DR MANTUA/Panart/Sergal. Lowest quality wood. Failure to inform customers ahead of the sale, that all the good quality wood is replaced with basswood and plywood. I will never buy mantua/panart/sergal products again. shameful.

Good evening from New Jersey USA!
Funkingonuts replied to Funkingonuts's topic in New member Introductions
Perhaps I can locate an account of the ships harrowing battle. That would give some flavor to the work. The low amount of available build logs would give all the more encouragement to take time and look to the community for personal development… one day I hope to rise to middling 😂 Thanks! Looking forward to this. -
I am new-ish and a big hello from New Jersey! I am new to ship modeling and certainly grateful to have found this hobby and all the amazing people! I posted my first attempt and I am currently trying to decide on an intermediate+ level kit to begin my next adventure, this time documented as it unfolds. Going for a kit for the ease of starting but I’m sure much will be scratch/upgraded. Liked the Amati kit I just completed and am leaning in the direction of victory models, Mercury 20 gun brig. There seems to be little or no content on that kit in any venue. Before continuing I should ask…is there an accepted or appropriate place to discuss manufacturers and individual kits? I would love to hear some opinion before starting a new commitment. good evening and thanks for having me, michael

New to this hobby and forum. The next project will be documented as it progresses with more information and better pictures. At this point in the project I’m sure this is the hobby I have been missing my whole life. Spending lots of time reading and researching. Don’t know where I’ll go from here but I know it will be a great time. trying out different finishes and simulated tree nails.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
