Made the curved ladders & installed them along with the gratings. Also made the benches just below the poop deck. I didn`t have any figures to put under the shelf between the 2 lower companionways so I just used some extra railing stanchions that I had. Thanks for the looks & likes.

    update -

Deck & inner bulwarks planked & holes cut for the upper deck guns.Found a nice darker red paint to use on this build - not as "in your face"as the previous red I used. In looking at the pictures of the ship in the museum I noticed the stem side braces - can`t remember the proper name - seem to each be made from two pieces fastened together so I made mine that way. Didn`t like Corel`s design. I also didn`t like the design of the decorative surrounds for the upper gun ports so I went shopping for something maybe a little better. I found some decorative rings at a Michaels craft store which I thought looked a little better - they have a flowery design fairly similar to the real ones & they were the same size as the kit decorations so after a little filing & paint i think they will look ok. The kit was short 2 decorations anyway.

    Update-
Finished the bulwark stanchions& railings - approx.390 individual pieces & a coat of poly applied. Also made the pulley block which goes between the railing at the center of the ship. Also got the gratings made. I will paint the deck flat black under the gratings. If I had paid a little more attention I would have cut the openings in the deck before fastening it down .

    Hi friends:

Now I finished the Lateen sail of the mizzen mast, as usual I must to combine the information on the BB plans with the Vasa model pictures.

There were several differences but the most relevant was the way to fix the front of the yard.  According to the BB plan the threads lay exactly on the sides of the upper part of the main stairs (the first behind the main mast), blocking them.  In the Vasa model pictures it can be seen that this lines are fixed to the main mast shroud, as I did.

Additionally I also had to add new belaying pins to fix the lines of this sail.

    Thanks for all your likes,

    Saludos, Karl

A very small update, but probably a major milestone achieved for me
The picture shows the forward grating section sized, however the rebates for the anchor ropes need cleaning up after installing all the fastenings. The eagle eyed(enlarging pic essential) will notice I have installed one line of the double nailing.I have found it necessary to install a pair at the same time due to the limit of how small a droplet of cyano I can apply. The holes are 0.3mm apart.I have decided to sand the radius profile to the top rather than risk damaging what amounts to about twenty hours work so far!!This will be done when the grating has been fitted with the combing. The nailing should become more visible then as there are cyano deposits on the surface at the moment.

    Kind Regards

    Update on the boat.....

of course I was too impatient to see if all had worked out as I thought it would.
When taking the small (upside down planked) boat-hull from the block I ripped off some of the upper parts of several frames. But thats not too much trouble because the middle sections of the frames will be removed anyhow....

thats how it looks after removing from the building base

some of the broken upper frame portions

planking so far acceptable, will need some touch up work

thats the rough hull, without trimming, bow post and keel are on. I was surprised how light the hull is, it feels in hand like the half-shell of a cracked giant walnut

    Update......

the clinker planking is with 0,5 x 4,3 strips of nutwood

7 Planks per side between keel and sheer. I`ll fit one more plank later, each side above the sheerline

due to leaving the rather sharp edged clinker contours, there is hardly no sanding afterwards possible, roughnesses can be trimmed with a flat key-file if necessary

Hi everyone! There's a lot on my plate at the moment, so I haven't had time to be as active as I'd like lately.

I have finished the skankläder (war cloth?) for the tops. I then started with the tackles. I was surprised how much work they where. First I reshaped all the block to make them more like the real ones. Then I drilled the holes slightly bigger to fit the ropes I wanted. After that I made the hooks connecting them to the channels before putting the tackles in place.

    Hello!

    Thanks for all the likes!

Just a couple of small updates. (Relatives finally left from Thanksgiving weekend!)

I milled out the centers of the cross tree platforms to size.

I painted the platforms a dull black
Then I added deck floor planking using thin (.030 thick) strip walnut.

After I get back from a couple of days of fishing (early christmas gift!) I will start working on the legs to support the upper platform rings I made above.

    Thanks again,

    Frank

    Hola:

I just finished installing the sails of the main mast.  As I mention before I made some changes in the rigging, adjusting more to the Vasa pictures than to the BB plans.

I haven´t fix the rigging threads yet, and I am waiting to finish all the sails to do that, because:

    1) to facilitate the maneuver in putting the new lines,
    2) due to the changes in the rigging some of the lines intersect each other, so it is necessary to change the place on the pinracks and this is more easy if you haven't fix the lines already and finally,
    3) to make final adjustments to the tension of the yarns

Next challenge: the mizzen sails. I will probably make a combination between the rigging shown in BB plans and Vasa pictures to have a more "logic" rigging.

    Saludos, Karl

I am currently decorating and between coats As the sun is shining,I thought I would take some pics of where the build is up to at the moment. No pics of the gratings yet as I will photograph these when I start building them up with their combings which will be in Ebony.
I have fitted the deck clamps back to roughly amidships. They extend right up to the deck underside. This isn't historically correct, however it is my intention to cut a 3mm deep rebate to take the lodging knees. This creates a flat surface for the knees to abut to,rather than contending with the severe tumblehome at this point. When assembled, the finished appearance will be the same as if I had built it historically correct. The hooked scarph joints are clearly visible. Both these clamps and the scarphed spirketting will be fitted with copper fastenings 0.8mm diameter extending completely through the hull as it stands now.I am undecided as to whether to represent bolt heads on the deck clamp fixings to illustrate proud bolt heads.
Work is progressing at a slow but steady pace on the deck plank fastenings.I have fitted two staggered fixings per main beam and one central for each ledge. The hatch openings have been roughly cut to size.Final finishing will be done when the hatches are made up.The area in front of the main hatch has further planking to be added for the flat capstan base.I got carried away drilling holes,I could have left this section

    Kind Regards

    Nigel

just a quick update, I have started gluing frames on,  things are going ok but slow.  I am hoping to get all the frames glued on by next Saturday, then starts the fun of detailing the inside.
