Hi Kevin I think to put all the lower lids in the closed positon is a nice idea - presumably with the scuppers open. Its all rather tricky with various elements (lids / chainplates / hull decoration / wales) all competing for the same space ! Hi Daniel Many thanks Cheers Yon -

Hi Guys Unfortunately there are too many lids still to do and I won't be starting on the starboard side for aboout a month ! In fact, I'm not happy with some of the few I have done and they willl need to come off !! Cheers Yon -

Hi David Good to hear from you. Here are a few photos. As you will see I tried to follow your method of making an angled cut to secure the strops. I think its working well so I am grateful to you for that idea. No more trips to the Caribbean are planned for me - in fact my working week has been cut from 3 to 2 days so I have even more build time. That being said I think the chainplates / gunport lids stage is not going to get finished until August at my current rate of progress - too much sport on TV this time of year is causing a distraction !! Cheers for now Yon -

Hi Lawrence Thank you for your comments. I have been looking at your log - looks like you are making great progress - I would be surprised if you are as much as a year behind me. I'm currently working on chainplates, gun barrels and gunport lids. Its all quite repetitive so I've not been posting pictures lately - its good fun though. I shall be following your build - keep up the good work ! All the best Yon -
Very neat work David. For some reason the masts look larger than I expected but they look very impressive when installed. Good stuff - cheers Yon

Over the past week or so I've been working on the hull decoration. Following the advice of my fellow Victory builders, I temporarily pinned on the channels and then applied the brass rails, fenders, chesstrees and other hull decorations. I also attached the side entry port and steps. All fairly straight forward but quite time consuming. Now for the chainplates.... -
Hi Kevin You've made a nice job of those davits - well done !

Hi David I didn't realise how much rigging was involved ! I think that will be a useful diagram. Thanks Yon -
Here are 2 pictures showing the stern davits and cat heads that might be of use. (Let me know if you don't want them on your log and I'll remove.) Cheers Yon

Looks great Kevin. I don't know if you have the Haynes Victory book but on the plan of the deck it shows that the stern davits are quite a bit thinner than the cat heads and only have 2 slots instead of 3 - so it looks to me like 3mm might be spot on

Hi Kevin Back to the discussion about where boats could be stowed, according to the Goodwin book there were two 25ft cutters and it looks like these were always stowed off the poop as in the model you highlighted. Then the four other boats (launch, barge, pinnace and 18ft cutter) were stowed on the skid beams. If I'm reading the instructions correctly, the Jotika Victory does not come with the two 25ft cutters so there are no boats shown to be stowed at the poop. Cheers Yon

Hi Sjors Thanks for your comment - you make an excellent point about my spelling ! I hadn't noticed my mistake but I'm not sure if I can amend it now. Cheers Yon -
Hi Jerry Looks like you're off to a great start. Like you I did not use a primer and I used good quality scissors to cut the tiles and did not have any major problems. The only difficulty I had was due to prolonged exposure to superglue. It seems, however, that most people don't have a problem with it provided the ventelation is good and they take a lot of breaks etc. etc. I didn't find coppering to be the most exciting part of the build but it was perhaps the most rewarding when it was finished. Keep up the good work ! Yon

Looks similar to the positioning on the model highlighted by Kevin. It appears that they only included 2 boats -

Hi Guys - Thanks - I think the photo might be flattering the look of my buckets. No doubt about it, they are very tricky. Cutting down from 21 to 15 sounds like a good idea as you will be able to get between them to rig the handles. Most builders seem to leave the poop after attaching the hammock nets - I think that's what I'm going to do. As for the boats - I agree it is a shame to position them where they cover up the deck below. Kevin has posted a picture of another model which shows a boat hanging off the poop. Looks rather good. You could still have 1-2 boats on the main deck and it wouldn't obscure so much of the gun deck. Another alternative that you see sometimes is for the boats to be deployed off the stern. Lots to think about ! Cheers Yon
