gieb8688 reacted to Old Collingwood in Mosquito B Mk IV - FINISHED - Revell - My next non-ship project
Done a bit more  -  I decided to fit some pipework -  for this I used electrical fuse wire,   I  put a small  smear of ca down  then  layed  some  wire, with a hairdryer to set  It set in place - I then did the same to a run underneath.

I then painted both fuel tanks the brick Red colour  - for this I used Red Ocre,   after drying this I added a few coats of  dark wash  - very watery  then dried  in between each layer, the main green shade still needs to be applied.

Well this will be it for about a week fellas wings have been locked in no glue required. The plane is sitting properly on the nose wheel but also notice one single tailplane is missing that is all it takes to make her a tail dragger Oh well that is an easy fix in the dio. I only have to add the bomb bay doors that antenna  and a few other pieces stuff you would  break off another 2hrs of work maybe. Ya'll keep safe out there  Kevin

I have been incredibly busy of late with work and work we are out doing last years sales even with only two customers allow in at a time it becomes very hectic and now with new prodi-calls in place that complicate matters even more-so.I come home and I am wore out some days and we have lost two guys in the last week due to stress(one for sure) he looked at every customer that walked thru the door as a bio-hazard and we see alot.

So what I have accomplished is to get the gun barrels in place having to drill all the glass and tailgunner section to get the new barrels to go through these are after market parts and really look more the right size HK's were 1/2 the diameter of these methinks.I drilled two holes behind the copit for radio aerials installed metal tubes which run fro there to the tail. The other piece HK did not provide was aerials that go under the copit.I cut some some aluminum tubing then cut another piece that just slide over a collar lets say/stopping ring for depth into the fuse. The two pieces were squished in some flat non serrated pliers for about 5/8" and some left over PE attached(4/2 each bar) and elastic thread was glued in place that's why the draw now they are just in the holes. The wings are done I just need to tidy up the fuselage before I make that last commitment to lock them into play.

I have question guys   the canvas on the side mounts and the tailgunner what's your thoughts on color?even your experiences from Nam from AC-130 gunships may of had some? Kevin

So much for my attempts at coppering the hull.
Pegasus is now back in dock, without copper plates but with white hull below waterline instead.
For the record, it only takes about 30 minutes to undo about 2 days' coppering work.  Still, it was worth it for the experience.
With Pegasus about 99% finished, I've gone back to my other build, the brig Mercury.  A change is as good as a rest...

Weeks have gone by since I posted anything about HMS Pegasus, so here are a few images to show progress to date.
Still no mizzen topmast! This will be my next task now that most of the rigging of the main and foremast is done.  I deliberately left this for as long as possible, because of a near-disaster while building Granado eighteen months back: while doing something to the mainmast rigging, I managed to hook my sleeve on the mizzen topsail yard, and broke the topmast in half. I was very lucky to have a long clean split, about an inch long, running along the length of the mast, rather than a short snap across the diameter, so it glued back almost perfectly - and more importantly, all the shrouds and other rigging survived intact as well - but I vowed to do all I could to avoid a repeat of this in future!
Plan B is to put Pegasus away for a while at this stage, in order to go back to my other build, the Russian brig Mercury.

I started work on Pegasus in July 2018, but unfortunately didn't take any pictures of the early stages.  I had just completed the Caldercraft 'Granado' kit, and enjoyed building it so much that I decided to go for this one straight away (I wish I had taken some shots of Granado during the build now, but didn't - anyway I shall put something in the Gallery for the finished model soon).
Granado only took me six months from start to finish, but I haven't been able to spend the same amount of time on Pegasus.  Still quite a way to go, but I hope that alternating work on my other current build, the Russian brig Mercury, with finishing off Pegasus will keep my enthusiasm up!
The first two shots are the only images I have of the earlier stages.  The others were taken outdoors on a wet Welsh Christmas afternoon.

Back to the brig Mercury after all this time!  A bit of progress over the past couple of weeks, with the second planking nearly half way done...

Adding the forecastle...it is scribed and ready for its furnishings.  I will be applying cerium oxide dust to weather the model as I go.

Nearly everything had to be removed or relocated on the CS hull to accommodate the new location on the Glory hull. Howes holes needed relocating...cheek plates and figurhead.

I used maple veneer for the decks and oak , mahogany  and redwood for structures.

Then I mounted it to the mast...had to make the truck band for the mast as well...rigging up the bunt line blocks.

This will happen for each furled sail...so I have a long way to go.

Panel lines have been added prior to the sail being bent.  Still need to add the sheet blocks too.

Here is also an image of her with very battered sails...the only pic of her under sail and the way I will model her.

I then began making the first main course furled sail.  Finished making the yard and adding the foot ropes and flemishhorses.

Here a couple images of the process...

It has been over 5 years since I began the Glory of the Seas...taking a departure to build my scratch Great Republic.  Now that I completed her, I am returning to the Glory after recently speaking to the author of the book *Glory of the Seas* Michael J. Mjelde....I've found new energy and purpose to finish her.

Here is were she resided while I worked on the GR..now she can come down and begin her own transformation and completion.

I hope everyone will fine her as enjoyable as they did the Great Republic.  I will only be rigging her as she was last photographed while under sail with only her lower and topsail set along with her main staysail and forestay sails.

it comes with practice Emmet- it is hairy pulling the pins, the side cutters i use have blades around 10mm long.

gieb8688 asked for some bowshots to show run of main stays- the mainstay (lower one) passes through the marines catwalk through holes in the knightheads, a hole in the stem then back up to the heart- the preventer stay (upper rope) passes through the catwalk as well then goes round the bowsprit then back up to the heart.

    hope this helps
    take care all

    Hello,
Completed constructing the boat davits and a test fitting.  Clean up, permanent mounting and rigging to follow.  Can't wait to build the small boats for these davits!
    Thanks,
