Love the brown colours on the metal work - so much more natural looking than black.

Hats off for correcting the hatch

haha - too much Scotch in your blood, no such thing especially if it is from Skye.

Wow that is a great spot.  I did not look at the plan and merely covered the hole in the deck.  The part plan clearly shows the hole to be off centre, but my hatch looks centred.  Mind you when you add the winch gubbins you can’t tell.

Indeed this pic clearly shows the offset

By the second pic I have a centred hatch - I must just be on the very edge

Not sure how I missed this log, following now.

Very neat indeed.  That’s the hard part over, the rest is pretty straight forward.

thanks for all the encouragement - here are some photos taken in natural light - no filler or varnish to hull as yet - ordered Alert for my next build. Not sure about absence of a rabbet for the 2nd planking in the Alert build but I fancy the the deck planking and single mast best for me at this stage.

OK, just had these renders of the almost complete second, and final, set of figures.

The is a Royal Marine officer and private, a ships cook, and 2 able seamen. I should have these ready within the next two weeks

The plain seizing looks fine.  I tie the top of the shrouds off the model using a piece of appropriately sized dowel. You need to play around a bit with the build sequence but it works for me.

Ratlines will be done in no time, only three knots per ratline😎;  compared to a three mast-er an absolute doddle. You will have your Nisha launched in two shakes.

For the Amati Victory, I actually did three different templates for the stern name, as every painting/drawing seems to show a different size. But it pays not to put too much stock in art, as many paintings/drawings were done years, even decades after the ships/actions depicted, some even showing later/very early 18th/19th Century vessels with fittings and colours in vogue at the time of the painting, rather than the period in which the vessels are depicted.

Indy had a (very active) 20-odd year career, and at some points, she would have had her name on the stern, so the name in included in the kit.

The question of names on ships regularly crops up.
For myself I am guided by L.G. Carr-Laughton (Old ship Figureheads & sterns)
This is what he had to say on the matter.

In 1771 an order was issued that henceforth ships should have their names painted on their second counters in letters a foot high, and enclosed in a compartment.

In 1772 the order was amended, and the name ordered to be painted without a compartment in letters as large as the counter would permit.
It has long been thought that in 1778 these names were ‘rubbed out’  again on Keppel’s initiative. This is only partly true, they were rubbed out only from the ships in Keppel’s fleet, and only for that one campaign of 1778.

The large letters continue in use until after Trafalgar, but in the closing years of the war apparently the name was painted small in a little compartment; and not long after the peace it was entirely omitted.

I don’t think anyone can gainsay you whether you decide to include names or not, for myself I will continue to include them, as I like them.
     ps: Impressive drawings Chris.

I have now almost fully recovered from my Covid experience, I had two weeks wasted, couldn't do anything except moan and sleep!

Indy is still progressing (although I am now two weeks behind where I wanted to be with the drawings..).

For those who may be interested, I have commissioned a set of 6 cannon crew figures, followed by a ship's cook, as I do get asked about expanding the figure range.

I should also have cabin chairs and table available to buy soon.

The rest of the keel is now added, and then the rudder post is fitted with its engraved facings and installed. This part sits into the notch in the keel and pushes tight up against the inner stern construction. No clamping needed!

The rest of the keel and prow engraved facings are added and copiously held with clamps. You can never, ever have enough of those.

The second layer of timber starts by fitting the outside forecastle bulwarks. When these are dry, the gun port blanks are removed and the hull starts to transform a little.

The rear outside bulwarks are now to be fitted. The quarter gallery frames are temporarily clamped into place and the parts glued. Note that I've remove the blank in the fore gun port hole.

The lower, outside counter is now glued, clamped and pinned in place.

Indy now looks like this. ☺️

    Until next time.
