Adrieke reacted to Piet in Muscongus Bay Lobster Smack by Piet - FINISHED - Midwest Products - length 15"
Hello all, it;s been a few days since my last post but I have not been sitting on my hands. Been busy with other projects, one of which is version 2.0 of the O19 dinghy.
Also thinking about modding the cockpit area by cutting down the last bulkhead so I can extend the deck / floor of the work area into the cockpit. Dee Dee and Hexnut mentioned it and I saw it on Dee Dee's build.
Most things are still in the rough state but tidying-up and adjusting all of the modded stuff should go rather quick.
I installed the planking on the cabin bulkheads, or made a start with it. I don't know yet how far I'll go with the cabin furniture, it'll most likely be sparse. Thinking now to put two bunks in on the starboard side, a shelf like thingy for a table and Hexnut mentioned a stove. Hmmmm, yes, a stove - - - but - but -
The fish / lobster well is now also almost ready to plank but I need to think about framing for the hatches. Also making a bunch fake frames for the cockpit and work area.
I laid the "king" plank already in the work and cockpit area. I'm close to ready for planking that section.
Well, here are a few pics of where we stand right now.
I started paneling the forward bulkhead and used 0.65 mm birch plywood. I put some moulding on the sides to make it look more finished - - - hmmm - actually to hide a few rough edges I think I'll leave it in thi color and put some clear poly on it. The rest will be done when the sides are installed.
Same procedure with the cockpit aft bulkhead. This too is not finished yet.
Here is the aft bulkhead cut down with some additional stringers for the deck / floor planking. I am also adding a partition just aft of the cockpit and you see it here loosely put in place. There is still some trimming to be done. I left the space open for the helm. You can also see the "king" plank in place.
An overall view looking forward.
Cheers,

Adrieke reacted to Sjors in HMS Agamemnon by Sjors - FINISHED - Caldercraft/Jotika - 1:64
After 2 weeks vacation I have to go to work again.....
The little free time that I had I have done something......
Deck furniture on the lower gun deck is placed like:
Gratings, Stove, Ladders and beatings.
And when i was waiting for some glue to dry, I have painted the windows for the transom and the quarter gallery's.
And because the glue was not dry yet, I have place them in the frames.
And because it's early dark, not the best pictures.
I wanted to do it now otherwise you have to wait till wednesday or thursday......

Adrieke got a reaction from tarbrush in Black Pearl by Adrieke - Hachette (Amati)
WEEK 16 - 18
these issues contain metal parts depicting barrels, bottles and basket and boxes with vegetables, fruit , potatoes and so on.
so far all the parts have been primed and the main color applied.
desert yellow for the sacks and wicker baskets
NATO brown for the barrels and wooden boxes
black for the bottles
lots of painting will be necessary to get them to look good, although probably most of these will be hardly visible on the lower deck

WEEK 15
all the parts for the bottle rack are included
I covered the outside with left over strips. this because I don't like how the MDF wood looks with the staining.
I might add some more strips to the front wooden parts so that the color will be more consistent

busy week at work and at home. most nights where spend trying to prevent my work area/garage to be flooded due to the afternoon storms with heavy rain.
i am slowly progressing though and i have now ordered enough of the flickering LED's to finish the lower deck.
the first one is already installed and the beams that hold the nect deck have been modified to conceal the wiring

Adrieke got a reaction from CaptainSteve in Black Pearl by Adrieke - Hachette (Amati)
WEEK 13 and 14 (no I haven't forgotten 12 but the brass parts where damaged, so I have to wait on replacements)
both issues have the same contents :brass parts for the side prison walls, lanterns and doors
as expected the brass parts don't fit snugly in the wood parts so I decided to use some small wood strips to make them fit better
First picture shows one finished part on the left, the wooden and brass part in the middle and the cut outs of the wooden part
one of the cut outs I reduce in thickness to about .8 mm which I fix inside the wooden part using masking tape. then I put the brass part on top (see picture 2)
measuring each inside then cut some wooden strips 2 mm wide. apply some white glue and push against the inside using
the other cut out which I sanded the sides down so they are .6 mm less on each side (picture 3)
once the glue is dry sand them gently down to the level of the part
afterwards remove the masking tape and cut out and turn the part over. apply some superglue on the sides of the brass part and then put 4 more wooden strips on the inside
sand afterwards and then all is left is to paint the wooden parts fat black

WEEK 11
wooden and brass parts for the prison cell walls
the brass parts are spray painted with metallic charcoal
for the mdf parts after some experimenting with stains and so, I settled for plain flat black paint

WEEK 8, 9 and 10
each week brings 2 parts for the lower deck
no strips of wood for the planking but 2 pieces of cardboard.
main reason I didn't use them was that it is in 2 parts with a seam visible through the open hull
so I used left over 7 mm strips (way to big but they ll do) from the GF and used oak stain to darken them
the bulkheads are treated with a black japan stain
