Thanks Jack! Al, I figure the longer it takes, the more bang for my buck I'm getting.
This book arrived in the mail today. About a third of it is dedicated to rigging an English cutter built in 1778. While not rigged in the same way as Cheerful, it is similar enough to really get a good 3 dimensional view of the rigging, as well as an understanding of how a typical cutter was rigged.
Here's a link to the book's description:

pete48 reacted to Omega1234 in Majellan by Omega1234 - FINISHED - 1/200 - Luxury 37 m Motor Yacht - Miniature
Hi everyone
Hope you're all well and thanks for your Likes and compliments!
I've done a lot of work on Majellan over the week, most of which can't be seen; mainly because it involved a lot of measuring, cutting and fine tuning how each deck sat upon the one below it. Although it may not ybe immediately apparent in the photos, the decks are looking much better than before (well, I think so, anyway).
Also, just for fun, I thought I'd also put Magellan alongside some of her sisters in my miniature fleet, namely, Symphony (Ketch), Mystic (cabin cruiser) and Rainbow (J Class). It's interesting to sit back and look at the relative sizes of each model when compared against each other. I still can't believe how small Mystic is in comparison to the others!
Have a great weekend, everyone.
Cheers
Patrick

Today, I started by making the Tiller, I almost had the first one complete when the Egg on the tip broke off, I then had to make a second one, it is nearly complete and then need to be finished. I then Made the Boom Vang and installed it to the Mast and Boom. Next will still be to make the cleats and raise the Sails. Here are the results

Hello, Piet, I used balsa on the first one because it was built to be Static. The Basswood works well with West System epoxy and will make the Hull strong. I am hoping to have the Herreshoff finished this weekend
Best Regards,
Pete

Thank to everyone visiting and liking my endeavors, special thanks to all who added a comment, it's all very much appreciated.
@ Dave: Thank you and you made me blush The pleasure was all mine - meeting you. The dialog? Well, if I can encourage others in trying their hand at doing things they have never done before then they'll make my day. As you and Remco know from personal experience - I am a gabber
@ Remco: Thanks buddy, it works for me The whole model is a figment of my imagination and these knechten may not be the way as used in them there olden days, but they should have
@ Patrick: Thank you and Gwen likes them too A big plus.
@ Carl: Thank you. Funny thing is that "knecht" doesn't even translate into "knight." According to Gwen's very old Dutch - English High School dictionary a knecht is a servant or indentured, slave, or man in bondage. Sorry for the added info but it's directed to the non Dutch speakers - a little trivia never hurts, right? Yes, the traditional checkerboard pattern on these hats would test my abilities to the max. Don't think that it didn't cross my mind though
@ Pete: Thank you my friend.
Didn't do diddly squat on the Surabaya today. Had to do yard work. Bought 200 + square feet of St. Augustine sod for the front yard and several patches for the back yard.
I did manage to make some changes to my other project, improved it a little, I think.
Tomorrow is more yard work, removing weeds where the sod pieces are to go, add some edging material to keep that pesky ground cover from getting into the grass and then laying the sod. This'll be a multi day project and could use some help
Cheers,

Thanks All. No it will not be weathered. I am building it as it is in the opening overhead picture. It was a Coast Guard boat during WWII and I don't think they would have put up with dirt and rust. So even the bumps scrapes and dents will be painted and clean.

pete48 reacted to Erik W in HM Cutter Cheerful 1806 by Erik W - 1:48 scale
There definitely is something to be said for measuring a bunch, checking things a bunch, and taking it slowly. I've been concerned about getting the wales correct, and identical on both sides. I think I pulled it off. Both sides, to the best of my observation, have identical runs, and line up perfectly at both the bow and stern.
I used the batten strip again to determine the run of the thin 3/64" x 1/16" plank that is located just below the gun ports and is higher at the forward most gun port. I drew that plank run with a pencil. Again, taking my time is key. So, in other words . . . this baby will be launched some time in 2028!

Thank you, Patrick, The grey Hull was nearly complete when I finished the first one, It took about a week to get to the point where the one on the jig is ( it does not seem that quick to me )

I am hoping to get some work done on the Herreshoff today ( I will post pics later ) I have been doing Pre- work for the 1/2" scale Volvo pond Yacht with the Volvo that I started, I then ( after planking with Balsa ) Realised that I wanted to do some water testing at the smaller scale to help with rudder and keel configurations, So I started another and will be using Basswood for the planking, Here is where I am at with that project
