Hi, Jo. I am building the same kit. I have finished the hull, and I am currently making the sails. The hull went together reasonably easily, but I struggled with the deck layout, as the instructions are very poor, and I have the same problem with the rigging.
Of the things that you have discussed in your posts; I didn't use any extra bulkheads, but my hull was made in two halves, joined when fully planked. This did make the planking easier.
You mentioned dyeing the sailcloth. I tried this, aiming for the customary tanned look, and found it came out a different shade on either side. I then went to a shop which sold cloth, and bought some the right colour for a tenth of the price of the dye.
One other thing, which may be a bit into the future for you, but I will mention because the rigging is in my mind at the moment. Some of the details on the sail plan are just plain wrong, such as attaching the main topsail to the topmast with mast hoops, which would mean that the sail could never be lowered below the topsail housing. Also some of the mast fittings shown would prevent the topmast being lowered. So I am treating them as a basis for negotiation, not as instructions.
I hope that you have fun with her, it's a pretty hull. As someone said she is currently still afloat, working for charter out of the Faroe Islands, called the 'Johanna' Del.

A friend came to visit, admired my two completed models, and expressed the desire to try to make a kit model himself. I gave him what encouragement and information I could, and amongst the things I said was that one of the problems I had to deal with as I learned was that the two kits I have bought have both had really inadequate instructions. I would not have been able to do it without the help and advice on this forum. He asked a very sensible question: what kit manufacturers have the best instructions.
I have completed a Constructo Mayflower, a scratch yacht half-model and I am working on a Talhoer Adriana, a Spanish kit of a fishing boat. They both have poor instructions, with more pictures than words, and they both use phrases like 'now plank the hull', with no other guidance.
I would welcome the input of those of you who have tried different kit manufacturers.
My friend once built a 33 foot yacht in his back garden, from plans, so he is quite capable, but building a model is a different set of problems. Thanks, David.
