  1. Matti, Your guns are amazing. Can't say anything else then really. It must have been hard and painstaking to make them as they are. I like them and I like the dark look of them. Jan
  2. Gregor, I agree with everyone it all looks very good and well thought out. Those extra pins will come in handy! Jan
  3. Thank you Kester for your kind comment. I saw the rudder to, I take over you suggestion an trim it to the keel line, being very careful not to damage anything but for now I have a rest and do some study on the remaining of the build. There is a lot of work to do and I want to be prepared for what comes next. And most off all I want to make the most of what is left. Plus some extra's. Don't know what, but I will come up with something. Thanks again for all your comments, please keep them coming, Like we said, this ship is full off learning. A next one will certainly be better. For now I wihs you all the best in coping with the Swedish winter (heard from my son, he lives in Stockholm, that is is very dark and grey). Jan
  4. Here are the pictures after the cosmetics. I must say I am proud of it, being a first timer. It is a pleasure to see that the determination has overcome some of the difficulties. All holes are drilled by hand and elbow crease. For the iron bands on the rudder I use the capsule off a port bottle cut to size on a glass plate. The helm is from an old peace of furniture. It is sanded in shape part by machine part by hand. The black band on the end of the helm an the top of the rudder suggest iron. Jan
  5. Thank you boys for these welcome and kind words to what this is. Like I said I redo it in due course. There is enough wood to make a new rudder and if not I will get some proper wood to do it again. Yes Kester the top one is far to long, and in the middle one there is even no gudgeon at all. My plans are now leave it for the time being. This is because it absorbs all off the good energies. And yes Tony I have the determination but sometimes there must also be skill and insight how to tackle a problem. For this project I must, like a said earlier, get my soldering skills at some higher level. Plus the insight on how to get the three pintels and gudgeons all work together in one straight line from top to bottom. After the cosmetics I will make another picture. Jan
  6. The rudder is hanging in the gudgeons. It planked and it is a dry fit. There still is work to do. And let me tell you I will remake it after my soldering is in order. It is close enough to the ship but it is not in a proper way. And certainly not historical right. The other thing is that it is on the ship and it works, for the time being this is it. I will make a helm and do some cosmetic work so it will look a bit as it should. I found this almost impossible to work out, because of the three point where it must turn on. I made several mistakes witch made it more difficult and before I discovered these mistakes and found more ore less the right path there was at times a feeing of I just glue it on WHAM BAM THANK YOU MA'M. But that is the past it is on and here is a picture. Jan
  7. The rudder is a real pain in the ears, hope not offending anyone. The state is now 4 up one to go, 2 pintels and 2 gudgeonons. The last one will be the most difficult because by 2 you alway have some margin number four gives you no margin. I realy don't know how you all did this there must have been a lot of swearing be involved in achieving things as they are in the other (your) build(s). I am dry fitting this thing now for 100 times and not relay satisfied. There will be an end to this but I am sure I will redo it after I have the right soldering materials and equipment, ( in a year or in two monts). I whis you all a good week-end and see you again on MSW, Jan
  8. Hi Eamonn, ofcourse you cab have the addres http://www.rbmodel.com/index.php?action=products&cat=news they do a swift job you order - they mail they have the order- then when they post it - all within 5 days in my case. I just made one for practice yesterday and finished it today here are the pictures notice the wheels. they still need some sanding, comes all right. Have a nice weekend Jan
  9. Kester, It is a good suggestion to plank the rudder never thought about it. I have more than enough planks to do so. The rudder is complicated work, I want it removable, don't know if I can achieve that but it is my goal. The state of things is now two pintels and two gudgeons so 2 up one to go. And the planking. Will be very happy when this is done. I see the rudder as one of the most important elements of the model, at last for this moment. By the way I have bought a couple of canons in Polen. Very good value for money. ( 14 Euro for 8 canons including shipping) .They came as a kit and I assembled one just to see how they look and fit on the ship. I think they are all right and look better then those that came with the kit. Al tough the are not as good as the ones Dubz made. Jan
  10. Hi Eamonn, Bit late in visiting our build excuse me please, like to have a seat is this theatre. Its going very well I see nice work on the planking. An you have a Sherbourne in the waiting room I understand. Nice to follow that as well. Hope you do well in the build of this boat. Be seeing you, by for now. Jan
  11. Kester I think you'r right it is to wide. The problem is the construction of my pintels and gudgeons that is to say in two ways. Material choice made soldering impossible so I had to glue. Thickness of the holder and the tube, the receiver of the pintel, made the total construction to thick, resulting in comming not close enough to the ship with the rudder.. I have reconstructed it, to solve this, by cutting in the rudder. The cutouts are made so that the fit is more towards the ship. It is now, with the first pintel and gudgeon on 1 mm (see picture) BTW it drives me nuts to get it so close to the ship. But you are quit right, To much space between rudder and ship is a major flaw. I am happy to be able to do the changes. Jan
  12. Kester, Gregor and Tony, thanks for these very helpful tips. It is indeed a tricky part. Good tip to probably cut it in to sections Kester. I will take good care and thinking of ladders and swivel guns before taking this job on. I am still working on the rudder and other metal parts. There is one a sort of horse shoe in wood, I make it in copper, do not know what the name is. I see it on other ships as well as the sort of x shaped thing on the aft. Where would I be without all your help Jan
  13. Thank you Tony, I had looked at the plan already but the main thing was nail and glue or just glue. You answered that one, I think a nail ore two will help the glue. Thank you for reacting so swift. Jan PS By the way how are you doing with the ship and the mill?
  14. I have a question for anyone who knows. I do not understand how to fix the rail. There are two sorts of holes square ones and other ones. Has it to be fit by nails ore is glue enough. I know that one of the holes is for the hand cannon, is the other hole for belaying things? Can anyone help me out on this?
  15. The first of the three rudder pintles is ready and dry fitted on the rudder. Because of diferend materials soldering was not an option, not to say a disaster. So I glued it on after a trial glue with metal, used ca it holds good. If the others go as good as this one I am one happy rudder maker. cheers , skol, proost, bottems up! Jan
  16. Did some metal work today. It worked not out the way I hoped. Almost there, and it broke on one off the holes. We will do it again. gudgeon sample An other thing is, I glued on the transom. In some way it had to go on like the picture shows. transom I managed to revise the cannon and the ports all fits well now. Drilled trough the cannon and replaced the trunions with copper tube of 1.6 mm brass tube, looks good. cannon rivesed. Jan
  17. Kester I forgot to thank you for your remarks about the deck you know how I struggled with it. The realy bad thing about it is that when it was done I discovered just the right planks for the margings in my desk drawer. (5 mm wide and 1 mm thick) It was a bit of a blow after the work I had was the margins that I used, but anyway it is on and its not to bad. Like you said we know what's wrong and after all " Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ". Jan
  18. Yes Michael you are right they do not fit. The ports are not high enough. Like I remarked to Kester I have to look in to that. It shall be all right in due course. Thank you for your remarks its all much appreciated. Jan
  19. Thank you Kester, as always very fundamental remarks and suggestions I like that. There are several things not ok. The deckhouse will be redone in an other fashion I like this one because I worked so hard on it but it is not right so it will be discarded. Replaced by something else. The cannons are a problem, like you say the do not fit the ports. In the Alert book I saw what you say about the ports that they go to just under the rail so that is what I was intending to do just before the rail goes on. Have to look at it carefully. I am studying the rudder and thinking about how to do it. Must practise soldering for that one and find out how the pins and gudgeon's will go together. Will read what the site has to say about metal work and so on. Struggling a bit with what to do next. And thinking of buying ready made guns and carriages in Polen. So enough thinking and work to do. greetings Jan
  20. After all the planking of hull and deck something completely different. I thougt lets make an contribution to the kit bashing idea. So I have done some construction work on a companion way. Here are some pictures of the making off. pictures 1 paper version 2 half way after making it less wide this the final version. In the end it was a bit wide. I disided to make it smaller it was not a complete rebuild but more a cut away of the sides what was verry well to do. study on the rudder. That is a challenge but it is comming to my mind how to do it. Jan
  21. Gregor, Thank you for this supporting comments on my side. I appriciate this so much. Like you say making a copy of what someone else has achieved is nt a bad thing to do. After what I have done with the ship so far I am now in a more relaxed way working on it. The thing was I had to prove that I could do it that has been the case so far me it not be to the standard of many others I am enjoying it and wil be doing so in the futher. What I also like is this talking about it with all the other people on MSW. The support we give each other is a verry good thing to experience. This little boat gives all of so much joy! Jan
  22. Hello Gregor, As you me have seen the deck is compleet and I made the holes in the stern like you said to me as well as the semi cirkel for the bowsprite. By the way my kingplanks are like you told me not running trough the middel of the deck. All the best and happy moddeling. Jan
  23. The deck is on the boat. It is far from perfect. In the end, and after this exercise, I can say, "It looks like a deck in my opinion". At the moment I can not do any better than this. To show this product on the site Of MSW gives me the feeling that altough every thing is not perfect. But let me tel you I am proud of it. iff you will give me comments than that's OK. I enjoy What I am doing with the skills I now have. This was one of the hardest things I have ever done with wood believe me. (and I have done something with wood, altough it always was bigger than this deck) It was a learnig proces all the way, I hope to do better next time. And like Kester said only we know how hard it is and where the imperfections are. picture of deck. More difficult things to come, we are making a model boat, improving our skills, and doing this to the best of our abbilitys. Cheers Jan
