-
Welcome Rome! You certainly came to the best site for model ship builders. Lady Nelson is a nice build. One of my closest high school friends, Luigi, immigrated from Guardiagreli(sic) with his family in the early sixties.

Hi Mike! That is a pretty boat. Your experience suggests you can bring a special level to modeling.
-
Welcome! Yours is a, to use the nautical definition, a 'pretty' vessel. Your artistic talents are appreciated.
-
Welcome. Victory? What a go! Do you have a kit manufacturer in mind or scratch build?
-

Welcome! Sorry about your bike accident and injury. If you go to the Model Shipways site there is data there. Chuck has a number of models thru MS. Search youtube both with his name and the name of your vessel. Smaret move to buy MS because they will replace parts you damage and have helpful information on starter tools. -
Welcome to the model ship confectioner's store. Best models imaged at their best. I was born and raised in Chicago in a predominantly Polish/Lithuanian/German neighborhood. Getting substitute teachers to call roll was a hoot!

Welcome! Appreciate your enthusiasm. Maybe try a kit first to get some idea of the lay of the plans.

Getting Back Into The Hobby After 45+ Years

Welcome. This is a beautiful, eye catching model. Enough to inspire a modeler. -
Amazing. My dad and uncles all served in the navy in the Pacific because their moms and dads were recent immigrants from Germany. What a find and challenge now we are looking at the 75th anniversary of D-Day, Bastigne, assault on Luzon. Please post after pictures. Maybe there's a V.A. hospital close by with old sailors who can help.

You are most welcome! I was forced to retire early (veterans problems etc.) and I, too, started to reacquaint with model ship building. Now I have to time to work when I feel best and can let it sit for a while. Don't pass up model kit manufacturers' sites for pics and info.

Welcome..... and don't forget the bandaids! LoL
-
Welcome. I can visualize your ability to teach and explain more complicated tasks to us less skilled builders/members.
-
Welcome! What a great place to build a ship - aboard a ship! Keep us posted on your progress. Every error is a learning moment.
-
Welcome. MS is a great place to start. They sell quality kits. Take your time.
-
Welcome. You do have a unique backround for ship modeling and live where it all happened.

Yes, they are reputable. I have bought from them for years. Sometimes things get slow. You can call customer service. The number is on the website. -
Welcome. Take your time. It'll be worth it. I am waiting for my five year-old grandson to mature before we start a build. He's into Lego now.
-
I think Canadian shipcraft is underrepresented. I, too, have the Vasa in the box and ready to go. Daunting. I am trying the D'Agostini monthly Vasa kit.
-
Welcome! My dad, his brother and my granddady were all navy, from shoveling coal to submarines to naval aviation. Your insights on authenticity will be helpful
-
Welcome! I think you have more to offer than you think. You can be a source for adding 'realism' to vessels.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
