Hi everyone, as you can see I am a new member from New Zealand, from the U.K. originally, [ retired ex Merchant Navy] I am in the process of building my first double planked ship the ''Endeavour '' by C Mamoli  [italy] sad to say pretty disappointed in the assembly instructions the makers must assume that each person that buys the kit is already a model ship builder, anyway I have progressed and have now finished the first layer of planking, which most of it I have  had to work out myself, but I will finish this ship with a lot of trial and error, having plenty of patients in my previous hobbies, my question is if any other members would be grateful enough to advise me on which model makers  of the kit of H.M.S VICTORY I should purchase for my next project. as there are quite a few makes out there, which makes it difficult to choose.  having been aboard the ''VICTORY'' at the tender age of seven years old with Mum and Dad, I have always been fascinated with this famous ship, so any advise and help would be very grateful , many thank, AL.

Buy the book; "Anatomy of the Ship:  HMS Victory" by Longridge.  Assembly instructions were for the real craft...  Make a decision on the scale, and you'll be fine!!

Scratch building is the  ONLY way to go if you are an experienced modeler.

Of those currently available, the Caldercraft/Jotika is probably the best around right now. There are plenty of build logs here for this version, but check out the log by Gil Middleton for a real treat. A new Amati version is on the horizon (see the thread on "Amati and Chris Wotton" for a preview). She will be much bigger at 1:64 scale (Caldercraft is 1:72), but there is no indication yet on when the Amati version will become available.

I built the Corel version. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are very experienced.

I recommend you read this thread that I started more than a year ago. I asked the exact same question as you.

Answer: Caldercraft if you want it now and want 1/72. Amati if you don't mind waiting and don't mind a massive model (1/64)!
