Well, today I started with some painting  

 

Then I did some painting  

 

The I finished off with some painting  

 

In the last pic I had already stowed 24 red and white chairs 

So as you can see, I did a bit of painting today

I got the bar top looking not too bad but the yellow I was using for the tables and chairs was a shade thin and caused me one or two problems and may need touching up tomorrow

I have found I am a bit short of decking strips of all things and also a couple of chair seats and a double bench so I have mailed OcCre and hopefully they shouldn't be too long arriving

I cannot finish the engineering deck at the top until I get a few strips

VERY unusual to be short of strips.  Both my other kits had way more than enough

there certainly is a lot of painting . i am not good at it thats why the kom is perfect almost no painting except the rails and smoke stacks

I am getting a little worried about how quickly this is going together

But then I look at all the stairs, decorations, bits and bobs still to do   

 

Anyway today I was in hospital for a bit so not quite so much done   

I completed the third deck building and furnishing.  The bar was finished and the chairs and tables fitted, also the grills that surround the smoke stacks  

 

I am really pleased with how this deck has come together.  It is by far the simplest deck with just the bar cabin and the seating area.

The smoke stacks are fitted later as are the stairs, also there are all the decorations and railings etc to be fitted, so plenty to do yet

 

Here is how she looks at the moment with the removable doors in and out    

 

So now on the list I have the engineering deck to finish and then start on the smoke stacks and various stairways

Hm  Must have made a mistake somewhere last night as my post is not here

Oh well, I will make a long one now as not a lot happened yesterday   

 

I managed to finish planking the last deck just having enough Sapelli to finish it, but I am nearly out of all strips and I hope that OcCre respond to my request quickly

 

Anyway I made a start at the skylight  

 

Then with the skylight finished I put together the grids I had painted and fitted those to the deck in preparation for the smoke stacks and fixed the deck in place 

 

I then started made a start on the smaller smoke stacks and also the stairs  

 

That was it for yesterday and then today I finished primary painting of the stairs and made a start putting treads in  

 

There are two sets from the first deck to the second and then one each for the next two.  Then a tiny little set up into the wheelhouse

 

While the stairs dried I gave the smokestacks a coat or two and fitted their tops  

 

I will give them one more top coat before fitting

 

The stairs are starting to come together and when finished are all white, but I am finding painting difficult as there are so many sharp edges to catch the paint  

 

Next to do were the main smoke stacks, bending the brass hoops ready to fit and giving the heavy bits at the top a coat of under  

 

Then as start for tomorrow I got the wheelhouse walls ready for planking, but I do not think I have enough Ramin to finish them

Hi Edwin.  No football is not my thing.  I was a rugby and cricket player and also loved a round of golf until my knees gave out.

As to my next build, I think it will be the OcCre London Tram as my wife really fancies that and I think it will look good as well. 

However at some time I want to do a big galleon and I think it will be the OcCre Santisimi Trinidad as that looks absolutely tremendous

Hi Sjors

Two things

I planked out the underside of the first deck instead of just painting it and I had to plank out the hull twice as I was not happy with the finish on the first so I guess a lot of it was my fault  

But

A lot of the Ramin was split and also had rough edges and the sapelli I guess was what I double used on the hull

When I do my next build as well I shall do a proper stock check as I stupidly forgot to do it with this one  

 

Oh well we will always learn and I am happy with the way it is looking  

And maybe not the end of the month.  No

You can send a e-mail to OcCre that you are short in your ramin.

I know for sure they send you new one!

They are not that difficult.

Mistakes is what we all make…..

Had a fairly quiet day today just doing a bit of painting

I am actually waiting for some new glue bottles as mine have become all but not usable.

 

Just did some painting and undercoating, painting the wheels, stacks, wheelhouse and stairs, also undercoating the motor and rails

I also made and painted the banisters needed for the stairs

 

 

 

 

Had a message from my man at OcCre to say my parts were on the way so everything should soon be good

Still waiting for the glue bottles so a little bit held back and as I have a lot of delicate gluing to do I am holding off

However there is always something to do isn't there   

 

 

 

Oh look...................................Painting!!!!!!!!!!!

The white especially seems to take a lot of coats to get a good finish even when primed and too many coats get too thick so a lot of care has to be taken

Hopefully the rails in the second photo will be good enough

The large bits in that photo are the engine bits and the red bits the decoration on  the wheelhouse

Roll on those bottles so I can get gluing

 

Oh BTW a little money came my way today so instead of being silly with it I have sent off for the OcCre London Tram that my wife really fancies

I am also getting the display base as it looks so nice

I have looked at a build and it's not as easy as it looks so that should keep me going for a bit

 

I can't even pack up because third coat seems to take ages to dry

i think painting is one of my less favorite jobs. and yes white always seems to take more coats then yuo want to do (expecialy if you have a plastic model where the part is black  )

Well I got the glue bottles

They aren't as good as they used to be but they will do for now

So great, I can do a bit of construction and take a break from painting 

 

Still got a fair bit to do to the wheelhouse but I cannot totally finish it until the strips arrive

But here is the wheel in place and the window cills fitted  

 

The roof is removable and as the stove chimney comes through it I cant glue it until it is planked

 

Next I finished off the main stacks  

 

I had to make the brass rings myself from brass wire and I have to say I found that very difficult to get them looking anything like.  I much prefer the idea the King uses of having pre made rings

 

Next I started work on the wood that holds things together and the white railings  

 

 

Also strengthening bars were fitted to the wheel struts.  The engine was put in as well along with the first lengths of railings with the wooden rail on top

 

Some of the railings and the wood fixed to it has to be removable to make it easier to view inside  

 

Here it is in place  

 

Chains are used to stop people falling overboard in between the railings  

 

The close up shows a couple of barrels standing at the back.  These should be round the other side according to the instructions.  But as no-one will see that side much I stuck them there

Next job is turn her round and do all that stuff on the starboard side

I am finding getting the white metal railings to look as good as I want very difficult

I think if I had kit such as a vertical grinder and stuff like that I would be able to get a much better finish

I have to admit I find it very difficult to get perfect square edges to fit together to be hidden by paint

 

Oh well, as long as the wife is really happy

And she is   

 

Ok, so I have been finishing off both the wooden and metal railings on the port side  

 

Only having hand tools does make like a lot more difficult now

I had to prune my decent bits of mechanical kit viciously when we moved into a flat some time ago   

 

I have a lot of painting left to do and I am dreading painting these decorations as I can see the cut outs filling with paint easily  

 

 

I gave those a coat or two of primer and while coats were drying I cut the paddles for the big wheel  

 

The paddles still need some work getting them smoothed out and coloured

 

I then spent some time on the starboard side with wood railings and the pre formed metal ones  

 

You look at it and think it is nearly finished, but there is a fair bit to do yet

Nice job Mick, she is looking very cosey with all that furniture. Yes I know, looking nearly finished but still a lot to do. Suppose your wife is chasing you since she wants to have her new toy by now
