Hello from florida

Hello to everyone and thanks for having me. I have wanted to start building for a long time and finally am in a position to do so and was looking for some info on the process.i am a carpenter and have been making scaled blades for a few years but am looking to up the game a bit .i am looking at scratch builds but i dont want to pick a build to difficult  to start any advice?

If you would be so kind, please give us a name by which to address you.

There are several scratch builds on this site that may be a good start for you, including a cross section build of Triton and Echo, Triton complete vessel and more. 

 

The next steps would be to go to something more complex such as Naiad, Euryalus, Swann class, and quite a few others for which there are plans and books available and there is plenty of help from the members here at MSW!

 

Where are you in Florida?   There is a club in the Fort Myers area and plenty of members living here in Florida as well.

Spent four winters in Fort Pierce. Did lots of model work in the Florida room in our double wide!

Why not start with a simple kit first.
Always good to gain some experience

Thank you and the more  research i do the more i am leaning that way despite my experience with wood and metal work.I'm thinking of a small row boat for a scratch build though, but not sure if that would be as simple as i think

There is a hobby shop in Palm Bay, Florida, north of Vero Beach which has  tons of great stuff for builders. I bought some old model boat builders magazines there which had a lot of good info.  Good luck.

Good drive on a sunny day and then you can go to Captain Hirams in Sebastian for lunch! Scallops in garlic butter are worth the trip alone.

Ok while i tryto choose a good kit to start with my better half put me on the spot.she challenged me to design a boat my way and i have no choice but to show her now so if it would be ok i would like to post my progress. Where would i do that?
