Erik A Posted July 6, 2019 #1 Posted July 6, 2019 My son got a piece of wood from a house he was working on. About a meter long 4 x 4 a very deep red and hard as stone. Think it may be Jarrah. I will get a pic next time I'm at home. Currently away from home as getting house relocated. Sort of wonder how good it would be we counted the rings on it and there are well over 50 on the 4 x 4 piece so must have been a very old tree Ships in Drydock for build. Cabbie Posted July 6, 2019 #3 Posted July 6, 2019 Morning Erik I planked my now sad and very neglected Endeavour with Jarrah. Yes it is a hard and mostly brittle wood, with lots of funny grain. I had a lot of bits left over from a job. Some Jarrah, specially the pale colored wood can be straight grained and appear to not have much grain showing, Which is what I used. Because I am new to model ship building I really didn't know better.
