Thanks Rob and to all for the likes!   Now that I’ve moved on to deck fittings these little steps seem to really help bring things together after the snails pace of planking. I’ve now added the curved roof near the bow and voila I’m done sheet 1 of the 5 plan set!  Even with all the recent progress my crewmate has fallen asleep at the wheel.  Scott

Well just over a month later and I’ve made progress here and there. Garden related chores, work and family all eat away at time to work on the yacht.  I’ve been focused on painting and stern decorations and a few shots attached. I’m becoming more comfortable with the photo etch and have been using gorilla glue gel.   Hopefully good practice ahead of doing a Vanguard product. Although that’s still a couple builds away. Scott

I’ve added the channels, sidesteps, figurehead and quarterbadges and made further progress on the hull painting. I had great difficulty with fitting the rudder hinge. The two components did not slide into opening in the stern counter as shown.  I sanded and was able to get it partway in and cut it back where needed. I have skipped the wire and eyelets and will instead use wood to create a strapping over the hingepoints.   The walnut ladder also crumbled into bits when I cut it out so I am debating whether to create my own or leave it out altogether. Scott.

Hi Scott,

I have learned a lot this evening just by studying your progress on this.  I am keeping a beady eye out to see what tools you are using.  I admire your cradling arrangement and specialised vise.  I notice also you have a wide variety of adhesives.  But the 'tip of the day' for me was seeing your tick marks on the bulkheads preparatory to planking.  Carefully planning all the tapering well in advance.  Wish I read that a couple of weeks ago.  I am almost finished what I call the 'underplanking', ('sub-planking?') on the Albatross.  I should probably get marked a 'D' on this, maybe an 'F'.  But hey!,  there's another layer of planking to dress off on this.  Lots to learn on this rocky road.

Hi Andrew, thanks for the check-in on this log and I realize just how much time has passed!  Since the last post I’ve done some work on preparing the mast and Chatham has been in dry dock since. The tick strips and careful tapering are definitely important - there are lots of resources on the site including a planking fan you’ll find helpful.  The Nautical Research Guild that operates modelshipworld has many helpful articles on planking etc.  here is a link: https://thenrg.org/resource/articles

in the meantime a photo of Chatham in her current state.
