After building mainly RC models , my first Schooner with rigging etc , quite a challenge , I didn’t want to use nails on the planking and used clips , wood glue on the planking , unfortunately part of the top end Broke away so back to using CA Glue mainly , working on the rigging today .

Last week an accident , I was sanding the bow whilst in clamped position , needless to say , the Keel gave away !! Glued it back together again , a bit of sanding and spray paint , I didn’t like the windlass that came with the kit and placed a spare Billing Boats windless I had some where and it is much better , I will keep it in Brass so much neater , also I have one anchor in stow position the starboard one just hanging .

I didn’t follow the instructions by AL to open the scuppers in the Hull, using the provided template would have been a disaster , my deck is a fraction higher than what is supposed to be , my mistake I should have checked it and rechecked , so my plan of action was drilling with a small Dremel bit from the inside placing the template on the deck to avoid any chuck damage  , and used a small flat file both in and outside to finish the job

I too was worried about the keel breaking off, so I reinforced it with brass rod

Was searching scuppers and came upon your post.

 

Cutting from the inside sounds like a great idea.
