I have finished the hull planking on my Dumas Runabout. Unfortunately, I sanded through the planking in a couple of spots where there was some "stair stepping' between planks. So, i need to fill a couple of deep holes.

I mixed up some mahogany sanding dust with balsa glue and applied the paste to the holes. The paste is much darker than the planking.

I was planning to not stain the mahogany planking but only apply several coats of varnish (it is a display model only).

Any thoughts on how to proceed would be welcome.

Could you splice in some mahogany  plank pieces in a way to blend them in with the existing planking?

The balsa glue sounds like the problem..  You might try some thinned white glue with mahogany dust..
