Sure--they're great glues for POF & POB builds. Indeed, PVA glues are the glues of choice for building ships. Elmer's, Gorilla, and TiteBond (I personally like TiteBond) to name a few, are all excellent choices. Indeed, most builders don't use CA at all or very rarely.

 

PVAs take more time to cure; however, they're much easier to de-bond when goofs happen. :)

Here's 3 good links on gluing.  Where PVA won't work, you might have to go with epoxy.

They reason they recommend CA is that the joint does not need clamping.  And it is quicker.  PVA glues and epoxy are still the major glues I use.
