I started a new build yesterday! 😜

If you can't follow any of the content below, go to a more detailed build I did earlier, here.

As always, I started with a bottle and a set of carefully scaled plans.

Capture.JPG.38a9b5c9f08fc1b79cd202dbe095bde3.JPG

Two pieces of wood (12mmx20mm).

Fri30th-1.JPG.06c11ea9cacdada3501405c61959a119.JPG

Decided on how much of the top piece is needed and also where the shrouds would be going on the top piece,

so I drew under the top piece (All will be made clear later.)

Fri30th-2.JPG.931f74548943420845b220b6c8c9edeb.JPG

Decided where the two 20mm Flat Head nails were going.

Up from the underside of the bottom piece of wood. (These are used to hold the two pieces together.)

Generally, away from the marked areas. Don't forget to leave them protruding a few mm.

Fri30th-4.thumb.JPG.ff5403f41303778a094472831069c847.JPG

Used my Dremel to cut out 2-3mm depressions under the top piece. 🙃

Fri30th-5.thumb.JPG.7dc4674ac4171fd56868cfdcc00f4c62.JPG

Cut a top plan of the ship and glued it to the top of the joined (NOT GLUED) blocks.

Start shaping!

Fri30th-6.JPG.79a3215b02b3da5259e4afca36953b41.JPG

Do the same with the side profiles.

Fri30th-7.thumb.JPG.b7f9083da2cac5b1d613bd44e4b07cce.JPG

Once done check symmetry.

Fri30th-8.thumb.JPG.ce05475fbec0aed85badfcf94ee538f8.JPG

Stop and admire your wonderful tiny achievement. :dancetl6:

TODAY

I added some rails (using Polystyrene 0.25 x 2.0mm strips) and started painting!

Using these paints.

Don't forget the top edge of the bottom piece. (It helps hide the join.)

and during the whole process, remember to do a fit test of both pieces.

Tomorrow is Father's Day so I think nothing will be happening.

Congrats to all Dads.

Cheers,

Greeting All,

Making the details for the deck was very easy.

P1010020.thumb.JPG.916a8655f19a0f1a131f4fae0d2477ec.JPG

Progress has been made thanks to my scaled diagrams.

This one is used to measure and make masts, yards and sails.

P1010021.thumb.JPG.bfeef96783503b49ec8ff5c205c16a8c.JPG

To decide on the rigging, I just keep using the same diagram.

Rigging.JPG.8d2cb52fb02257c8cecebc4747ed3967.JPG

The little ship is coming together well, and it fits into the neck of the bottle quite easily.

P1010025.thumb.JPG.32a6ca424222a7649ad479c8e0ae74bf.JPG

The sail material has been stained with Vallejo Brown Sand paint

and is ready for cutting and attaching to the yards, tomorrow.

Till next time,

Cheers,

Not much interest in this one, but thanks to @CiscoH and @ccoyle for your support.

Last time I left you with masts up and not much else.

So here goes.

She was then ready for the sails, using white glue, and shrouds.

(Holes in hull, needling lines and glue in place underneath.)

Time to put her into a clean dry bottle.

Bottom half first. Let it dry overnight.

43.thumb.JPG.33676d56b894d52db2ec5567b4770f6e.JPG

Then, 'the cruncher', the top half.  😬

46.thumb.JPG.236facd9b636dc7f9d6a898bfa8fc38d.JPG

Let it dry overnight and then pull her up!

Add the finishing touches

and she is FINISHED!

Thanks again guys for your support.

Cheers,

Peter.

Well done Peter!!  Sorry to have missed this earlier.  You put it together quickly!

Makes me want to finish my SIB build.  I got a little stuck in how I wanted to represent the bulwarks in a thinned down version and just decided to start something else.  I wanted to get it thin, but then of course needed to be strong enough to hold the rigging.  I was originally trying to use thin plywood, and might try it again.  After building 1/700 scale ships, I have better tools and ideas on how to proceed with details like that.  Your build log is very inspiring!

Mike

Hi Mike @Landlubber Mike,

Have a look at my simple solution in Post #13 here. Simple and worked well.

Thanks for your great comments regarding my build.
