Keep going!

Sand that wood filler until it is smooth and feathered in.  When filling seams feel free to mask off each side so extra filler is on the tape.  Makes the sanding job easy.

Consider the lower hull needs to be completely smooth, no humps or bumps, or “stair steps” between planks.  Look into how to use a card file.

Good luck.

“Hello, boys. I'm baaaack!”  Randy Quaid’s quote from the movie Independence Day
It’s been a few months since I last worked on my AVS.

I started the second layer of hull planking.  I’m still following R Lunt’s practicum and others build logs.  First thing I noticed is that this lighter mahogany is easier to work with and cut, maybe do to how thin it is.  Using 4-inch planks makes it easier to align and glue.

Some areas I need to work on.  Not sure if the thicker plank is correct on the forward planking that is circled.  Also, I’m getting a few areas that have a slight discontinuity due to my trimming, aft area circled.  I’ve tried to reduce these discontinuities by trying to sand or file them to an even flow.

I also have some small gaps between planks.  I plan to stain the hull planking rather than paint them.  I’ll fill the gap with a little wood putty before staining, then see how it looks.
