More coloring brass questions

I'm building the Erycina. The directions say to prime, then paint the brass fittings. Does anyone do this? If so, what do you prime with?

I tend to stick with Tamiya Fine Primer.  Come in some colors like white, gray, and black.

If you don't handle the parts much afterwards, you might get away without priming, particularly when spray-painting. It also depends on the brass, some alloys are more 'greasy' than others.

 

Another option is chemically blacken the parts first. Paint adheres to the blackening much better than to the bare metal. Should work for parts in dark colours, but may be not so good for parts to be painted in light colours.
