Queen Anne's Revenge 1710 by shipmodel - FINISHED - 1/36 scale

Recommended Posts

Hi Sbaker -

1710, the year that QAR was built, is a little late for a spritsail mast.  R.C. Anderson says that they were pretty well phased out by then, especially in smaller ships which did not need the leverage of a forward sail to tack through the eye of the wind.  Budriot does not show one in his plans of Le Mercure, so I did not put one on.  That said, there was a great deal of variation in the rig of ships in this somewhat transitional period, even among ships of the same size built by the same nation.

If you are building your own QAR model, make your best choice and stick with it.

Best of success.

Dan

Hey Dan,

I know its been a LONG time since you started this build log and I don't know if you're going to even see this message. I am very interested in starting a scratch built Queen Ann's Revenge. I am a middle of the road model builder, having built several model kits and one scratch build that came out pretty good. I plan to use a few different sources for the build, but most importantly, your build log.

My biggest issue is finding the shape of the ships hull. Do you happen to have pdf's of the individual bulkheads? Or, know where I can get them? I realize that its conjecture and we don't really know how it looked, but I trust your research and think that my best bet to get an accurate representation is through you. I'd appreciate any help you could give me. Please feel free to Direct Message or EMail me. Thank You.
