This is a really nice build!!

I’m particularly interested because I have the same kit from Bluejacket and it’s up next when I get done with the Flying Fish.

Thanks for leading the way!

PM me your email. Unless, of course, you think it worth me posting a reference photo thread. I have quite a bit on DD139!

I'm debating lightly weathering DD227 with either pigment or washes to bring out details. Nuln oil has wreaked havoc on one deck gun. Any sugggestions on something more workable? 🙃

I finally got ahold of DD227's actual plans from NARA... the downside, of course, is that I can no longer hide behind "looks right".

The galley deckhouse is being completely rebuilt amidst a lot of profanity. The pieces in the kit are both too tall and not long enough to match the galley deckhouses of the DDs built by William Cramp & Sons.

My latest project is correcting the kit small boats. I have rebuilt the 26' MWB and 24' whaleboat. The 26' motor boat is a trick though...

Does anyone have a suggestion for scratchbuilding the rounded shelters? I could carve out of wood but I would like to make them hollow.FB_IMG_1769617814597.jpg.53d46c5e04cdb0a3f8ff457491f6d70b.jpgFB_IMG_1769617833645.jpg.5f80e0d331a5f758c86508882ebd5505.jpg

build it as 1 piece for now  so when test fitted onto the boat, the shelter will fit tight to the boat's deck & will be level. cut the openings out later.

do you have a dremel tool or similar with a deburring tool?

build the outside walls 1st with the bottoms fitted to the shape of the boat deck so no gaps appear.

figure out the height difference between the vertical walls & top of roof.

are you going with solid walls all around besides the openings or do a pole framework on the backend of the shelter as shown in the bottom picture?

You could also build a framework from bent brass rod or wire and then cover them with treated tissue like on your bridge railing windscreens (tape might work too). A couple of coats of paint and they should look like solid material.

That said, I think the method described in ddb's post would be best if you can pull it off.
