Hey everyone, I have been working away at this cross-section as a retirement project. My previous experience with model making goes back to plastic models as a much younger version of myself.
Kind of just feeling my way through this project and realizing the learning curve is steep. I have made a few critical errors, one that is noticeable if viewed from the top, and the other being putting the heavier guns on the highest gun deck. Once I noticed the mistake it was too late to rectify the error but a lesson learned.
Any feedback or suggestions would be welcomed.

Cheers,

Russ

A cool morning here in the Maritimes so started to paint the hull.
I am using Artesania paints and find the hull colour quite thick. Does anyone have advice on thinning these paints, is it necessary etc.

Thanks,

Russ

I used airbrushthinner, but you need to do a extra coat...

Hi, I have been steadily working away at painting the hull and adding the ladders if that is the correct terminology. Had some issues with keeping the ladder lengths consistent with the tools I have so will look into a more precise cutter going forward.
I thinned the paints and that seemed to work well with a little more time spent adding coats.
I have also taken time to look at a number of builds on the site and let’s just say it’s a humbling experience. The level of skill on display is incredible!!

Hi everyone, the time has arrived for some advice on how to manage this problem I’ve run into on my build.
I’ve provided a few pictures for reference. The problem I have run into is fitting the platform that supports the deadeyes. The gusset type bracket provided seems to be short. Firstly I am wondering what angle the platform should be. If I mount it flush with the wale it will be slightly tilted up which seems correct to me based on nothing really. If I do that the brackets appear to be short and will interfere with the wale below the platform. I could notch the wale to accommodate or possibly add a plank under the platform to give the bracket some length. A longer bracket would be ideal but I guess I would have to fabricate them.
Or maybe I’m just missing something!
If anyone has built this kit or has some advice it would be appreciated.

I have just started this kit, just finished the 2nd video, here is a picture of the channel fixed to the hull.  The drawing is from HMS Victory, her construction, career and restoration by Alan McGowan.  As you can see the channel is horizontal, hope this helps

Ha, cheers for that. Yes this is very helpful! As it turns out I went ahead last week and mounted the channels horizontally because it positioned the angled brackets in a better position. I have a few books to reference but none provided a clear view of the correct positioning. I added a piece and sanded it to the angle I needed. I IMG_4698.thumb.jpeg.637ebffcb3cbe33600eee11bdb527782.jpeghave added a few pictures to illustrate. Also the photo on the box and videos appear to show the channels at a slight upward angle  I guess because the frame of the ship is not vertical at that point. Having said all that I am on my first build so you may not experience the same problem.
