ok now what iam doing getting the bulkheads right for the plank so that thay fit just right this going to be a bit slow but it will come out looking better if i take my time on this part

hello all  so what i have done is sanded the bulkheads to angel right for the planking u will in the pic i got it just took my time on this part. as it must done the right way so here some pic for u all

the faring is fun to me.....I usually have to do it in the garage or on the porch.  I use a long sanding block that covers two or three ribs at a time......it makes a god awful noise.  it goes away as the ribs become in sync with one another.......be sure your even all the way down to the keel.  so to not have any gaps between the deck platform / bulwark mating,  be sure the ribs are flush with the platforms.  your doing great Dragzz

hello popeye yes the bulkheads are good all the way down to the keel.but the wood that came with the kit dont look good to me so i might use what u see in that pic

ok for now i have put a plank for the front soaked it fro 30 min then put it on bend np at all did not break.

so all is going well here a pic of how it going

ok here in this pic i have glued the two rear bulwarks . its was not that hard to do all i did was soak in water for 45 mins then i clamped then in place till thay was dry after that i glued them in place as u see in the pic. iam doing a lot better now then i was befor .here the pic of where iam at now

the stern bulwarks look really good Dragzz....going to be a good guide for the first row of planking.

tys popeye    so in this pic u will i got the front bulwarks glued in place now so far so good . now i just to know how to tapered the planks the right way . so this will be fun .

that's correct........with the first plank running against the fore and aft bulwarks,  the planks are going to run along the tops of the mid ship ribs.  is that mahogany planking?  if so,  then you might want to give it a slight bend for the bow and stern.  I've never used it,  but I hear that it can be a brittle wood to use.   at the bow,  cut to the angle of the stem and a bevel so it will fit up snug against the stem and the rabbit.

hello popeye yes its is mahogany  the wood that came with the kit is not good at all i tryed to use it so i put in water for 45mins and still snaped on me . so tryed the mahogany and it was fine did snap at all so that what iam going to use so in the pic u will iam starting to plank and yes the sec plank was beveled to fit snug to the frist one so here some pic

tys popeye  do u think i should taper them now or do some more full planks this is where iam at now

I am no expert but I think you should start planking near the keel and move up the hull. The hull of a trawler is very round and you will need to taper quite a few planks. The transmission shaft output is going to be very delicate. Do you have a block of wood that has to be sanded by any chance, for this location? I would glue these pieces to the keel before planking.

hello popeye i will do that popeye  after i put the blocks in place and sand it i will put a plank in the mid of the ribs just as a test fit to see what i nned to do for taper

is there a piece that will wrap around the stern? I have a PDF of the instructions......I sure hope you got more than this to work with......vague doesn't even describe it. doesn't even show the block your talking about.

yes popeye there are blocks to put in i looked up a log on the st roch on a diff forum and saw that there is two blocks that go at the back of the hull this where i saw it http://buildingthestroch.blogspot.ca/search?updated-max=2011-10-07T12:26:00-07:00&max-results=500      thats where i saw it

ok here is the blocks in place i got to let them dry put i sand them this is what i was talking about popeye and in the book and on the plans it does not show it go fig right lol here some pic

yepper!!! it figures this is pretty much the same stern configuration as the Nordkap and the Cux 87, I did {my first two builds}. I wrapped the planking to the stern stem.......crappy job, but I did my best. this will do just as well......I'd be careful with the sanding though.

yes popeye iknow what u mean iam going to sand them a little bit then plank the rest of them then sand the blocks again to match the planks

I got that book from Harold, the fella that gave me the Nordkap. he also gave me a couple of other books as well as a stack of modeler magazines. if you follow the book, you'll do Ok.....keep going! looking really good

hello dragzz. bluenose2 here. I am on the final leg of my build of this schooner. A good web site for reference photos is hazegray.org. It shows the correct colouring for the boat as the Billings is incorrect for this build. You will encounter some scratch building such as for the aft pulley covers for the rudder control chain work. Also Blue Jacket ship crafters supplied me with far more accurate davits, search light and turnbuckles. They also provide accessories for the wheel house if interested. I have some pictures of my build log under bluenose2 if your interested. Good luck!

Hi - I purchased the St. Roch Billing Boat because I have struggled with planking the sides of previous models.  Billing 600 series is supposed to be easier to plank.  I was surprised at the lack of instructions with the kit.  At no point (that I can see) do the instructions tell you to put the two sides together.  I am going to follow your pictures.  Thanks for posting.
