Looks pretty good to me, mate! When the time comes, I have a wife that I spent over a grand on a sewing machine that known how to use every function. Had to take classes. Look at all those typo's! This texting while driving is not easy.

I like your answer. You do have to look for the hitch in the line though. Had I not been looking for it I'd have missed it.

For the stability of the yard, could you cut the joint at an angle to give more surface area for the glue? Then wrap the joint in some brass. I got strips, like 3/32x1/64x18" for next to nothing on amazon. Sails, could you die them after gluing?

I like green and yellow myself. Approaching painting myself. Wouldn't it be okay to use a semi-gloss, or was that not an option back then?

Don Quixote replied to Don Quixote's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
@texxn5, I'll pm you. That's not the first time I've heard of that model. I have your table saw as well, the one that the saw tilts and all that. -

@vaddoc Tell me a lot more about the bearing you mention. Oh, that's right, Ma. And thanks. Freaking nag. -
A lathe for masts and spars

Those Palm planes look a little cheaper than the lathe. -
Is there a lathe that can handle the small diameter, but long length of a mast?

Welcome. I've been at it for 5 years now and I'm still new.

Mike, Getting back to twisting planks. When I twisted that boxwood, I put it between helping hands of 2 units so I had some distance. I then used my steamer until the wood was soaked. I then immediately gave it a slight twist, let it dry, soaked, twisted. Probably took me 6 hours to do that.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
