  1. Photo Update.... MSW is not allowing me to post photo's in my text, rather it attached them as thumbnails..... It's a bit strange! Any body else have this problem? We had a "pupdate" on the puppy last night, so I thought I'd include her in the post! Eva, Lily and Poppy are the current trains of thought on names! Cheers Jonny
  2. It's been the same here Eamonn, it's only in the last few days I've actually managed to get back to Sherbourne! Off to bed now, so I'll take photos on the morning! Hopefully you'll all like what you see! Cheers Jonny
  3. Family always comes first! I will happily put down the model for Lucy (only if it is absolutely necessary though)! And yes they're great fun! I remember when my mums dog had puppies, it was quite possibly the best 8 weeks of my life! Imagine 10 Labrador puppies swarming around you as step in to their pen! It was utter madness! And the really excitable ones would be so happy that you were there, they would start snaking their bodies around because their tails couldn't wag fast enough! Haha
  4. Chaps, I have dropped the ball... I forgot to get some photo's last night! The Admiral distracted me with YouTube videos of 4 week old Cocker Spaniels, and by the time we had finished it was too late to take the photo's. I will hopefully grab some tonight, if not, definitely tomorrow as the Admiral is going out for a girly Cross Stitch night with the mother in law, so I should be able to get a great deal done on Thursday! Cheers, Jonny
  5. Dominic, I found the instructions for Caldercraft kits (especially in the smaller ships of the series) are very high level and lack the written instruction when it comes to the rigging, although the plans are very useful for bashing out the task! It may be worth getting the ATOS book for HMS Victory. I got my copy at the National Maritime Museum for £10.00, where it is usually £17 to £20 online, if not more in shops. Victory is on my list as a future build (it will probably be the Kit Bash to end all Kit Bashes), and I have a season ticket (only £24 for unlimited visits) to Portsmouth Royal Dockyards, if you want to bash the kit in any way, I would highly suggest taking the time to visit the real ship! Although being in Fife doesn't make that too easy! Also spray paint is fine for covering large area's quickly, but consider a cheap airbrushing set. I bought one from my local hobby shop that runs off a can of compressed air (as apposed to the compressor) and comes with all the basic equipment you require to get started. My misses bought one too for cake decorating, they're really good! Cheers, Jonny
  6. Anthony, I'm sure she will be a little wrecker, and I know my life will now revolve around the pooch! But fingers crossed with the right level of training, and enough walkies, she will be quiet and eventually let me get on with a bit of Ship building! Thanks for the kind words on Sherbourne, it's my first kit-bash attempt, and I've thoroughly enjoyed the process, and the additional work that goes in to it! Cheers Jonny
  7. Hi Chaps, Some decent progress has been made on Sherbourne over the last few nights. All the cannons have been installed, and I have cut and shaped the gaffboom and the spanker boom. The next step will be painting these and fabricating sails. I have plenty of other bits to get on with, like adding the channels and belying pin rails, but I want to build and furl the sails prior to installing the gaff and spanker to make it easier for final fit out. I still haven't decided on how I will mount Sherbourne on the display stand, but I need to think about that a bit more! If you guys have any ideas, feel free to let me know! Photo's will be posted tomorrow! Cheers Jonny
  8. Hi Everyone, We have just got back from the magical island of Jersey, where we had a great time, sailing, eating fresh seafood (mostly lobster, crab, and oysters), and most importantly catching up with family. If you have never been there before it is well worth the visit as it is absolutely gorgeous, and the weather is sublime! I have spent most of the day, sorting out the house, food shopping, and unpacking. But the real fun will start again with Sherbourne tomorrow, and I will focus the next 5 to 6 weeks on fixing the guns down and the hopefully getting most of the standing and running rigging completed before our puppy comes!! As for puppy names - Lily, Poppy, Eva-May, and Olive are on the shortlist!!! We will have to wait and see which name suits her best! Cheers, Jonny
  9. Not sure yet Ken, but Lily or Poppy or the two recurring themes! I'd like a name for her with a nautical twist! Cheers, we will do!!
  10. Hi guys, Not a great deal of progress made this week due to hunting for a puppy, but I can say now that the hunt is over.... We have a little Cocker Spaniel girl to look after from 22nd August! Fingers crossed she will integrate with our lives nicely! Right, must finish packing for our holiday tomorrow! Cheers Jonny
  11. Photo Update.... Commander inspects the Ships Boat and Cannons Windless with Starboard Anchor Cable and Messenger Cable Stowage for Fresh Water and Beer Kegs? Starboard Anchor Cable Elm Tree Pumps ready for painting Overview of the deck and stowage of Ships Boat Starboard Anchor and Cathead There's still plenty to do on Sherbourne, for example, both Catheads need rigging with a block and hook tied back to a cleat on the head, but that is one of the many things I intend to spend my time tonight doing! I'm considering having the Port Anchor glued down on to the baseboard to simulate the anchor on the seabed? Still have to get the deck fittings sorted out! Cheers, Jonny
  12. Hi All, Monday night was non-eventful in the Shipyard due to the excellent decision made by the Admiral to start looking for a new Shipyard Supervisor (fingers crossed a little black Labrador or Labradoodle)! After our holiday next week, we will start for a puppy properly, but I couldn't resist trawling through every website possible to find the best puppy! So watch this space, as I may be running a Puppy Name Competition very soon! Last night however, I did manage to get some work done on Sherbourne! I managed to build up the Top mast, shape the Main mast to the required dimensions and build up the Elm Tree pumps with the modified, less elegant handles. I will paint the Elm Tree Pumps Red Ochre later on tonight. Hopefully by Saturday I will have every cannon rigged as well. Then it's all down to the fitting all the tiny eyelets fro the rigging. I will post photo's later on! Cheers Jonny
  13. Morning All, Party season is over now until Christmas (hopefully)! Yesterday was a total write off for the shipyard, so hopefully the elves can get back on to Sherbourne tonight before our holiday next week. I have plenty of bits to get on with in the next few days, for example rigging the ships guns, so hopefully some progress will be made in the coming week! I'll keep you all updated over the next few days. Cheers Jonny
  14. Hi Shipmates, Sherbourne is still in ordinary, waiting for me to get back to her! I'm getting serious withdrawal symptoms as I've done as I've been told, and I've not touched the ship or made any mess! Fingers crossed I'll be sober enough tomorrow to start working on her again before our holiday next weekend! Cheers Jonny
  15. Yeah the table is looking ok, there are a few ridges in the French Polish where I didn't get the polish moved about fast enough with the rubber, but a bit of light sanding will fix that! I'll probably do one more coat of polish mid week and that will be it! The table has taken about 10 to 12 hours at this moment in time, with a possible 2 to 4 hours until I can leave it alone! As for Sherbourne, the Admiral has banned all work for the week because the shipyard makes too much mess! Haha so I'll have to do non destructive, clean bits to the model for the next few days!! Cheers Jonny
  16. Hi Guys, The shipyard has been closed for the time being as we have family over today, and friends over on Friday and Saturday night. Work shall commence next Sunday to help me cope with the major hangover from our party on Saturday night! I will post some photos of this weekends progress later on! Cheers Jonny
  17. Photo update...... Cannon Assembly Swivel Guns Sorry for the short sharpe update, but I'm still very busy at work and I won't get much time tonight as the Admiral and i are off out of the town with some friends! Cheers Jonny
  18. Hi Guys, I'm using a spare 5 minutes to let you know that a Photo update is coming later on today.... I'm slammed at work today - lots of CAD drawings to get issued, so it might be a brief one with just the photo's! Cheers Jonny
  19. No I thought so too, storing anything outside of the Taffrail is surely asking for trouble. I can't imagine a perfect place for the without getting in the way. The sweeps would have to be kept inboard to keep them secure, but where they are kept is a mystery. Ok, I'll wait until the boat arrives and device a neat storage solution... I might be able to tie both the boat storage and sweeps together?! Who knows. Fingers crossed the parts will arrive tonight! Cheers Jonny
  20. Kester, You're probably right about the minimal use of sweeps in the channel, but I've seen a few contemporary models with the sweeps outboard of the ship, stored on the channels or tied on to a pintle from the top sides above the gunports. Worst case scenario I will lash them to the top of the ships boat. What did you build your ships boat supports out of? I'd assume it would have sat on chocks over the main hatches, but where and how big? Cheers Jonny
  21. My order for Sherbourne has been dispatched by Model Dockyard. 1 x 18ft Clinker Dinghy, 5 x Water Barrels, 2 x Tops Lanterns, 1 x Galley Flue, 10m of 1.3mm Rigging thread, 8 x 84mm long sweep oars, 1 pack of 10mm & 1 pack of 8mm brass rings for assorted uses on the ship! This is going to be one hell of a pimped out Sherbourne!!
  22. Hi Guys, I manged to build and paint six cannons last night, so I have my final two to make up and then I can start the very daunting task of rigging them. I had to attempt a bit of scratch building on gun number 5 last night as I managed to lose the front axle of the gun (it got stuck to my finger and I flicked it off - not thinking and a big idiot moment)!! They all look good though. I've never rigged carridge guns like these before so, I'll be very cautious with them from the get go! I'll take photo's of the completed guns tonight. Cheers Jonny
  23. Hi Guys, I'm building the cannon trucks this evening, as I got side tracked with sanding and French polishing the dining room table last night! Three down, five to go! Cheers Jonny
