  1. Hi Gentlemen and Ladies of course. I'm currently studying the rigging plans for MS's Constitution and am wondering if there is any other use for the Runner Pendants (mast tackle) and Burton Pendants, other than being used for various lifting jobs and fishing anchors and the like. Were they ever used for any other kind of structural rigging? Been looking around and can't seem to find much info on the subject. Cheers
  2. My plans show 5 at the Fore and Main fighting tops and 4 at the Mizzen. Cheers
  3. This saw, ropewalk, and disc sander, are definitely on my "things to get" list. This winter, it's going to happen. Cheers
  4. This will be my first attempt at uploading a picture, so bear with me here. This is a picture I copied from Frank Mastini's Ship Modeling Simplified that shows a Mast-stepping jig that might help. Cheers
  5. Yup! Projects like these are definitely not something you want to dive into expecting instant gratification. My first time-frame estimates come to around 4 to 5 years, God willing and the creek don't rise. Fair winds
  6. Those bands can be made off the mast and then slid up into place after soldering, or maybe self-adhesive copper tape could be another option. Cheers
  7. Having to order extra parts is something I think all kits seem to have in common. Then you have to worry about getting the right scale parts back from them. Does putting "Everything you need to complete" on the box, constitute false advertising? Cheers
  8. You didn't miss it yet Tom. It comes on at 8:00 PM this coming Friday on the Smithsonian Channel. Cheers
  9. Spyglass gave the answer as "twice or again" but outside of purposely making the plans more obscure by not just using the letter "D" for P/S, I don't know. The plans for the MS version are relatively easy but there are places in them that could have been worded different to make it a little easier to understand as well. I guess most plans are just vague in nature. Cheers
  10. Don't know about BIS, but Paterazzo means backstay and 133 is your inner martingale backrope and 143 is your outer martingale backrope. The inner seizes to the upper and the outer seizes to the lower dolphin striker. Each is installed port and starboard. Hope that helps a little. Cheers George
  11. What "BIS" could be is beyond me, but that particular line is your inner martingale backrope, and 143 is the outer martingale backrope. The outer connects to the bottom of the dolphin striker and the inner goes to the next one up. Note: Both are seized at the dolphin striker, and BOTH connect port and starboard. Hope that helps a little. Cheers George
  12. I found a program called "Ariel America" on the Smithsonian Channel that's advertising an upcoming episode of a tour of Massachusetts including a look at the Connie I believe. It will air Friday night at 8:00PM Eastern Standard for anyone who's interested. Cheers George
  13. She IS looking pretty good Rich. I like the unpainted look as well. Wouldn't mind building an admiralty version of her, unpainted, with maybe a cut-away hull and decks. Fair Winds George
  14. I believe Tom found his on Amazon as well. He ended up getting the 2mm size for his 1:76 scale Connie, but there are the 1.5mm and 1mm sizes there that might work for your build. For some reason I can't seem to attach the link but you can find it on Page 17 or 18. Cheers George
  15. George is fine guys. GLakie is just my log-in name. Keep in mind that those plans and photo are the way she sits today. I've seen other models that have the cannonball stored on dished-out planks fitted all the way around the coamings, and staggered between the cannon themselves, and that may be the way they were back in her early days. I haven't been able to see much info about her earlier configurations but, before I start my build, I'll be picking up the AOTS for her and that should answer at least a few questions I have. Cheers George
  16. You're welcome Rich. GLakie and George is one and the same, but not to worry. Cheers George
  17. After going through my own archives of pics of the real Connie, the only one I could find was this, but it might have been different for the 1812 version, for instance.
  18. This is going to be my first attempt at uploading pics on this site, but they're located at most of the hatchways and companionways. I counted about nine in all, not to mention ammo passing scuttles that you should be able to zoom in and see at four locations on these plans. Note that they are found at the bow just behind the grating behind the bowsprit and ahead of the foremast unlabeled. they were channels made of rod that held the cannonballs in place. Hope this helps. Cheers George
  19. Looks good Rich. Once those masts and spars are assembled, she'll start looking more like she should. Cheers Geo
  20. Sorry to hear about a break-in and the passing of an old friend Steve. I've lost a few myself, and can sympathize. I agree that burglars should be keel-hauled, only on an aircraft carrier. Been following your Connie build. Nice work on your boats. Going to be at mine in about 4 or 5 months or so. Fair Winds George
  21. The AOS for Constitution is on my list of things to get in the next few months Bill, but I have to think that Mr. Lankford must have tried to reference that when he drew up the plans for it. Inevitably, it will probably be one of those things that will be up to us to come up with a little artistic creativity for. Fair Winds Geo
  22. From the research I've done so far, it's almost impossible to get an accurate rigging plan on the Connie anyway. Even the MS plans that were drawn from every reliable source he could find doesn't provide a belaying plan with enough separate points to tie to. Instead, they recommend either doubling them up, or add belaying pins or cleats at the most logical place you can find. Probably because she's undergone so many changes over the years. Cheers George
  23. It's interesting you mention making copies of the plans because I've got the same intention and called what used to be Kinko's (now Fed Ex I believe) and found out they'll do it for around $55.00. Maybe I'll call Staples and find out how much they want before I do that. George
  24. I believe Bill is right about the aft rake. These plans I'm looking at are saying a 3 degree rake towards aft. Cheers George
