Beakhead capping build error has now been corrected, didn't take to long and I'm now happy with how it looks.

Work on building the two carronades, it is progressing slowly but I'm happy to take my time
    Base section assemblied and painted

I may remove a little bit of the black front end to bring more in line with the actual HMS Victory carronades.
Slight bit of yellow paint leakage to be corrected as well.
Also front edge of lower yellow block need to be painted black

I will be taking time with the bow assembly phase as I think it will be quite a tricky task to complete.
Plenty of pre painting and dry fitting seems to be the order of the day.

    FIrst dry fitting.

This part is too big to fit in the slot, slight modification required

Part has been modified; dry fitted, post modification.

These parts have now been removed and are currently undergoing the painting process.

    Beakhead capping completed.
Paintwork will need a touch up once the glue has dried.

Realised I had missed the top brass profile on the beakhead bulkhead

View from hull, showing beakhead capping and shot garlands.

Brass profile, painted yellow, now attached

Once the two forecastle Carronade's have been assemblied the work will move on to the bows assembly phase, which looks will take some time and plenty of  hard work to get right.

Good news the beakhead assembly has finally been glued to the hull.
As can be seen the portholes have been painted black,
There is a bit of dust following fitting the cat tails and filing the top edge smooth

Was a quick and easy task to fit the beakhead deck planking.

The cat tails have been fitted, and clamped whilst the glue is drying

The two shot garlands have been painted and dry fitted. Will glue in place once the clamps have been removed.

I have started reposting some earlier pictures which have gone AWOL from this build log; I hope to complete this task over the next week or two, providing I can locate all the missing pictures!

This is most likely my last post till after christmas. Other than the last two days we have been on 12 hour days 7 days a week for the last three weeks and will pretty much continue until the 20th. So, very minimal build time for me. My bank account (and the IRS) are loving the double time though! Who needs sleep or hobbies? There is coffee and dreaming while awake!

Just before the insanity started at work I was working on my quarter badge window frames as my sciatica eased up. I finished my first set only to find I made my jig wrong. I had thought I allowed for a small amount of trimming top and bottom but ended up making them so big by the time I trimed them down there wasnt enough frame left to hold everything together! Dohh!!

    Looks OK

    Too big! DOH!!!

So I made a new jig and built some new frames. When I made my dados for the mullions I cut just a tad too deep and ended up wit numerous match sticks......Doh-dohh!! Somewhere in all this there were a couple more screw ups that required starting over. All told I think I made these 5 times before I got something I felt was workable.

I wan to get over to a place called SilPak and buy some casting epoxy for my glazing. I have several failed attempts at frames so I will experiment with that. If it doesnt work out I have some micro crystal clear I can use. My only concern is it dries so soft. we will see.

    Several attempts later.

While glue was drying on the frames I continued stropping blocks for the gun carriages and ordered some 0.025 rope from Chuck for my breaching ropes. Tonight i was able to rig one carriage - took me most of two hours to do. There is still room for improvement but I am mostly OK with my first attempt. Not sure how much breaching rope I should have and how it would terminate on a lashing like this, so far I have not found a picture or drawing that shows the and of the breaching rope. All the drawings I have seen the rope is cut off at the ring, I assume for clarity.

I havent trimmed the lropes yet as I may still play with them or redo them as I gain experience.

Not sure how much of the breaching rope to leave, leaning toward the left side.

Hope everybody has a great holiday season.
    Till then ,
    sam

    Greetings all
Well at last the ship is in it's case. The photos don't do it justice, as I pointed out in the display case log. But the ship does really look impressive. The photos showing the full case are very fuzzy, and we tried everything we could think of to eliminate it. I did notice the fuzzy pictures when I moved into my new shipyard and blame it on the blue walls which I was advised was the best colour to use. The walls in the other yard were magnolia and the photos were much sharper. Anyway you can see the difference with the close up photos. So that's my lot, and now I turn to my next build which is the royal yacht caroline by panart. I did purchase the pegasus after following blue ensigns brilliant build, but the admiral said she wanted me to build a galleon. She said my late fathers last two ships were galleons so she wanted a galleon. She had a look through Cornwall model boats list of ships and between herself and her friend decided the caroline was a nice ship. So I am now beginning the only royal galleon caroline on the site. I would like to thank you one and all for following my build over the last few years, which has been wonderful experience. I am now off to build my Galleon. Here's the last few photos. Keep enjoying your builds....DAVID

    Hello David,
Congratulations!!..It's so nice to see your beautiful model resting in its new spacious home.  The case looks very nice and having a removable panel makes handling the ship a task and not a chore.  It was my pleasure to watch your progress when I came aboard the site and especially to have you become my friend.  Truthfully, I would have never completed my ship if it weren't for you with your friendly personal messages calming down my many panics.  As much as I liked communicating with you the past couple of years, I can tell you for sure, I am not going to build the Caroline.  Now it's nothing personal but I think the next project may be the Derfflinger, a Euromodel kit.  My admiral hasn't made up MY mind yet.  IN any event, My Victory is finished as the flags and pennant were hoisted this afternoon.  I'll probably post a picture of her sooner or later.  The display case has been ordered and will hopefully be ready in four weeks, just in time for Christmas.  In the meantime she is isitting on her table, probably collecting dust as we all await the cover.  Have a great night and enjoy the rest of the weekend.  Your friend,
    Jerry

    Thanks for the link Rich.

I am hoping I can sort it by doing the second side and learn from my mistakes.  So far , touch wood, it looks better.

I have pulled off a few tiles and used them for the cut tiles I need so I think my wastage is low .  Once I have done the stern on side two I intend to go back and do side one so fingers crossed. At the moment I am about 8 rows down midships so early days, Shipyard Sid's pics look helpful so we shall see

    Its a long job

Well, it's been forever since I posted any progress, but I have been plugging away on Victory slowly but surely.  Let's see, what have I been doing?  Figurehead is done and on, catheads were completed but I knocked them off so many times turning this monster around on the work bench that I've set them aside for now. The model now sits on a lazy susan/turntable on a separate table for ease of turning.  Channels and chain plates are done.  Side entry ports and steps are done.  Stern and quarter galleries are finished except for black highlights between the windows which I still need to put on. Rudder is coppered and on.  Poop deck is just about done except I need more ballusters to complete the poop ladders and am waiting for them.  So here's some pictures.  More to come.

    Patrick
