Just a small update,  I have been reading the manuals, and looking at other build logs to get a idea of whats next on the to do list..

The Lower deck planking between 4 & 12 bulk head, I wanted to make sure that every plank will be the same, (although i'm guessing this part will not really be seen) so I'm going to use this time and space to try out a few/new ideas,  I,m going to try tree nails

I made a little jig to cut the 80 mm deck lengths (if this is wrong size please let me know) also made an extra bit if I have the need for 40 mm (half) and then after we had been shopping, a nap and lunch, Lol, I thought of a jig for the tree nails,

I'm happy how this has turned out, and how the few planks I have glued in look, (Will edit picture of this in a few days)

    Hello All,

I have finished the first layer of the hull, filled and sanded, came out not bad tbh, Might add a little bit of filler around the Bow.
all though i was adding 2 per side per day,, the last few was 3  due to the small size, a

any ways this task was done..

Over the last few weeks I have been making a few of the small boats, Barge + Cutter due to my building works.

These have been a little tough, due to the size, the planking was painful, more so the amount of time my fingers need to be cut off,, oops.

Quarter Windows, I have done a bit of research on this, I have read what others have done, and tried my own way,

I had a go at just the plastic that came with the kit. I did not get the look I wanted, I found and ordered "Micro Kristal Klear"

The Pictures attached. is the first attempt, Although they are above the 1/4 inch recommended, It can be done.  I'm happy with the result I'm now just waiting on the rest to dry, I'm going to give it a full two days to dry fully, ( although this does not dry to a hard finish, it is a strong rubbery.

My method for installing the breaching thread is as follows:

    1) Drill the bulwarks and fit the upper eyelets
    2) Cut a 150mm length of 0.5mm thread and feed through all the eyelets
    3) Size the thread at each end to the bulwark eyelets.
    4) Apply some glue to the carriage wheels and locate on upper gun deck
    5) Insert the eyelets in to the bulwarks

It may not be neat and tidy but given the location of the carriages under the quarterdeck I'm happy.

I'm starting to think about the next rigging task which is from the rear of carriage to deck. Longbridge's book shows a double and single block arrangement but kit seems to be based on 2 x single blocks so I will draw out the arrangement before I start.

    Good evening
after the dismal progress i made last weekend, it nearly ended up being the same this weekend
the tried in vane to get the right sale on the cannon rigging, but it all looked so large, so i attempted to convert some 3mm single blocks into doubles without success so i gave up and ordered 100 3mm double blocks
today i tried the fire buckets, the ones supplied with the kit don't look anything like Real life, come on Jotika Caldercraft - you can do better than that, although not to scale i am going to use some from my parts bin, they could do with being thinned out inside but i am going to fill them with sand so it should not show
the gold emblem is work in progress, hopefully when painted and scanned and reduced in size i will then print onto water decal sheets

    Hi Peter,
Ill copy this to your log also,

on the upper gun ports, Ports number 3-10 Need to be line before you do the 2nd player of hull planking.. I found the I need to Open all the gun ports,  (What I did was take a lid, part no 323-324, and use that as a template opened up before I planed the Hull)

Once you have planked the hull, Line the lower 2 rows of gun ports with 1x6mm  the upper ones are 1x16mm  ""don't forget to set back by 1mm, As i was also informed get a few lenths of balsa strips about 3.2x3.2mm  to line the inside so the linings ave something better to hold.

With regards to the linings not matching up I think this is a design flaw, This is from a Post David"Shipyardsid" sent me >
Trim the underside of the bulwark pattern until the outer hull and inner bulwark cills are level, then trim the top until the bulwark pattern fit in with the gun ports level. Don't worry about the bulwark patterns being a bit slack if you overdo it , It all gets planked and hidden. It's a good idea to make up a gun carriage and use the barrel as a gauge if you follow, but remember you need some planking strip under the wheels as your deck is not yet planked. Once you get the deck and bulwark patterns both planked fit a thin trim as an edging if you follow. I have added a photo to help you understand, but will delete if you tell me. Sorry to be long winded.

I think this is  all, If you need anythng else or cant understand me ( most people don't) LOL Give me a shout

    Sam, Your So right

I Have finished lining the gun ports, filled sanded and painted, I happy with it atm, Might need a bit of fine tuning when I paint the Hull, Im Going to this afternoon Line the inner gun port walls so i can paint the rest of the gun ports and paint the hull.

Thanks for dropping by everybody. I'm using the "Fully Famed" series as well as "Arming and Fitting" for most of this. Russ, you reminded me, I have 60+ hooks to make still. Rich, I will follow your lead and build a mockup bulwarks and rig to that.

Yesterday I finished the outer frames for the Stbd badge as well as the beds for the carriages. When I dry fit the barrels the muzzle will center up nicely in the gun port. My plan is to rig all the guns in a stowed position - muzzle lashed against the top edge of the gun port. Right now with out a quoin it sits just right, I may leave the quoins off. I dont think too many people will notice.

Wayne, thanks for visiting and the kind words. What you are seeing is the result of planking the hull three times, the initial 2mm thick planks Constructo supplies, then the 0.5mm planks. I got to a certain point and removed a considerable portion of the 2nd planking, ordered more and continued. Wood filler and stain hide a multitude of sins. I had a chef tell me once he was an ok cook but his sauces were great. I look at my planking in a similar way. My planking is ok but the finish is very good.
As your discovering on your Mayflower, planking is "interesting." You have some very accomplished builders commenting on your log, your going to do great.
