Hi Bob,
Just beautiful as always!
Robert

Thanks Jason. She's an elegant one indeed! Quite the sun bathing beauty
I don't think I mentioned it before, but your paint work is immaculate!
Cheers,
Robert

Hi Jason,
Looks very nice! Great tip on achieving consistent placement height -- I'm inching closer to installing pin rails, and that will come in handy.
When you have a chance, perhaps an overall shot showing the recently installed capping rail throughout?
Safe Travels,
Robert

Hi Jason,
I agree. That height looks and 'feels' right to me as well.

Happy Anniversary Sherry! Hope you kids have a nice get-away

I hate to repeat myself, or 'beat a dead horse', or whatever you want to call it Augie, but that is one gorgeous model ship!!!!

Hi Bob,
I know I'm being redundant, but she is just beautiful!

The 'roughing up' of the metal surface is the key no matter what kind of adhesive you use Robert. Sarah has the right idea.
Thanks Augie. I should be installing some eyebolts in the not too distant future, and really don't want them pulling out during rigging.

Hope
(I've used CA "gap filling" it works OK but make sure your brass is not greasy from your fingers and maybe even roughed a bit so that the glue has something to bite into)
Thanks Sarah. That's a bit scary. Would some type of epoxy be better?

What is preferred for gluing brass to wood?
Thanks,
Robert

Yup, what Augie said!

Hi Alex,
Your Sphynx build is absolutely beautiful!
Could you tell me what type of drill bits you use to make those holes in brass? Mine all seem to break.
Thanks,
Robert

Fantastic painting work Timmo! The color selection, the detail, the shading -- everything is outstanding.

Congrats Jason. She starts to really look more complete with the capping rail installed, doesn't she? Look forward to seeing her all painted.

Talk about ship shape! Beautiful Augie.

Pristine work there Bob!
If I understand correctly, you did this work on Kingfisher prior to building your Syren, which was prior to building your Fair American. I'm half afraid to ask, but was this your very first build? (If so, I give up here and now )

Extremely impressive carving work Sherry!

Thanks Grant and Augie. (You had me with that one Augie -- I'm embarrassed to say I had to look it up )
And thanks Jason. Yes, walnut never again is my mantra! However, I'm unfortunately going to have to do the rudder from walnut to match the keel and stern post. But no more after that!

Hi Grant,
And now I’ve had a chance to view your build log! First off, I hope your recovery is going well and you feel better soon.
I can’t get over the scope of work involved with Victory as compared to a small, flush-deck brig or ship! Your writings on the ratlines alone capture the challenge, but then you think -- what about all those gun ports? And then, all those gun port lids! And then on, and on, and on …
I’m glad you’re back to her, as she’s really looking beautiful! You give hope to those of us who have a habit of taking long breaks away from the shipyard! I’m looking forward to following along with you the rest of the way.
Cheers,
Robert

Hi Jason,
Here's to hoping that glue holds. I'm sure your idea of permanent pinning will do the trick too.

Hi Sherry,
From the quality of your work, I’d say you’ve already outgrown your username. Looks like you’ve been scratch building for years.
Cheers,
Robert
“General Finishes” Gel Topcoat, wipe on urethane (Satin) / Basswood
in Painting, finishing and weathering products and techniques

Hi J. Pett,
I also had a good experience with that product. I chose to use it on a pear wood deck, as I wanted to keep darkening of the wood to a minimum. Just as you found with bass wood, the product enriched the natural color and quality of the pear, without significant darkening. (I had tested matte finishes and sealers, but they did not really bring out the beauty of the wood.) Once dry, I used a scotch-brite pad to knock back the satin finish to a bit closer to matte.
I got mine at Rockler.
