The next lot in the paint cue, davits, focsle equipment, etc etc. I even ordered more carley floats. With soo many tiny pieces I have to alternate as I’d just go mad.

AS previously stated, Pontos based this kit on Tamiya’s Prince Of Wales not the KGV. As such the central catapult area is a retrofit and there is no protrusions at the end of the Cats on the side of the ship provided and have to be scratch built. The 42-43 version did have the armoured splinter shields instead of railings and I have yet to add 8 single 20mm guns. Yes, I also have to fix up the paintwork and add some large scuppers.

Deck vents, so many deck vents

I can relate to that regarding all the deck details, and guess the time can dash by and all of a sudden so much has been completed, just worries me - a completed ship and no where safe to keep here away from accidents and Dust.

Beautiful job, Greg.
I have to say I prefer the grainy photo (though I agree B&W would be better than sepia) - it looks like a photo taken at the time. Modern photos are just too crisp and clean to get the historical "feel" across as well.
A real achievement.

Thanks gents but I’m not rushing, it takes weeks to get little bits done you don’t even notice then BANG, it seems to jump ahead.
The who deck has a few hundred pieces to make/paint/add, then ships boat, a plane, a million individual stanchions to be added.

Smashing, mate. I especially like the blue in the camouflage, makes her come a live, not just another dull grey beast on a picture. I see you whipped out your 3mm drill bit, stanchions and thread ... must be thrilled to bits when that comes up.

She is looking superb but hey slowly slowly does it why rush, if it took a year - 2/3 years no matter, the enjoyement is in the building no the finnishing unless you own a model shop and want to display as many as possible.
My intention is to make sure I have a dustproof covered display case to put my ole girl in for when she is finnished.

The two main superstructures have been glued to the deck. There are 4 secondary gun platforms that required 2 day’s work to add stanchions then rigging the 3 bar railings.
Throw on some ladders and a few more carley floats and done.

no different than some of the B&W's I have of the Arizona.........makes it hard to discern some of the detail. both keepers in my book

oldfashioned is the word I think ... but I would go for historical
I would go for the B&W not the sepia, it looses to much detail

The black and white looks fantastic even blown up. The photo Dubz did looks pretty "old timey" (is that a word?) in the sepia.

I used a single section of PE railinging and bent the top rail out, then glued it to the interior was, making a railing, then just glued the denier down with a tiny dab of CA
Dirks photo hides a lot of sins

the rigging looks very good........how did you terminate them.......at the deck or the railings? you've really out done yourself with the structures Greg....they look awesome! love the B&W picts too dirk's looks like it came from a magazine.

Greg
The B&W enhances the detail even more than in the color pictures somehow. That is a Very busy superstructure. It is almost as if she is passing under a bridge and we are looking down.

The b&w really do it justice - its like looking at a news paper photo of her from the time period.

Thanks, given the absolute lack of detail on this kit (it’s really dated), it becomes like being a little bit pregnant, you detail or you don’t. It seems to upset my OCD to not detail but this is really quite a big piece.
Now, my black and white effort

What you cannot see, because it's on the bottom of each piece, is a longitudinal piece that's glued which gives it it's vertical strength. It's like a "T" shape. Plenty strong for the little plastic boats.
The picture is a little visual tutorial on how the pieces are made. One thing you'll find with Pontos sets, the parts are well thought out and engineered. Just so darned small and fiddly to work with, but hey, that's the price we pay to work the details. If it was big and easy, everybody would be doing it.

I hope they are strong enough, when it comes to placing the boats on them. likely quite flimsy and won't take much pressure. that would be my fear! nicely done.......looks super!

All the mounting structures for the ship's boats are made from folded photo etch. Makes for a fairly tedious task to fold it all, glue it up, then paint it all. It's a done deal now.
Rear bridge tomorrow.
