    Hi brunelrussel,

thanks for dropping in and your interest in this model....
if you have the same sources I basicly used, you probably have the view of 6 decks and the side view (in section). To design a modeler`s plan you need to choose a scale, set a number of frames at preferbly equal spacings, and then pick the widths at the appropriate  crosspoints Decks / Frames at hull outer Skin.
I presume you have experience with this approach, so for a modelist with practice it`s quite a common task to draw your own hull lines-plan from that Information. It results in the Frames plan for determining and transfering  the individual Frames to Wood. Certain decks will Need to have Access to in some Areas. I put stringers to all deck Levels, which are are not resembling the actual horizontal waterline Levels, but These stringers  I would have put on anyhow for easing the planking Job and bringing in sufficiant strength and warp tightness to the rather Long hull

For the scale I choose (1:144) the requirement was here 26 Frames at spacing (Center to Center Frame) of  5,35 cm on keel. Exception : the distance between last and second last bow Frame is only 2,67 cm
Trust this will be what you were seeking for....

    Cheers

    Nils

    Gentlemen, colleagues, friends.
Thank you very much for your kind comments about my work. A little patience, please. Tomorrow we will try to do a photo shoot. But today will be a difficult battle with the dust. Before the victory ...

Mike, I hope you will succeed! And when that happens, I will be glad and happy to see him. Good luck!

I read on the Russian forum about a mix containing bitumen. If you use this mix,I assume it must still work with wax already applied? When I read about this technique,I was concerned it could result in a patchy finish. If you apply wax first, then I can see how this is aleviated.Sorry for so many questions Alex, but rather than struggle to find the answers on the Russian forum, what better way than to ask the master himself?
    Kind Regards Nigel

Very, very decent job! Very skillfully, gently. But it is very labor-intensive technologies. It's really hard and a lot of work. This work is worthy of respect and admiration.

Outstanding work Alex        I love your choice of deep rich woodtones.Rather than being a 'slave' to historical exactness regarding colours, your approach is an expression of your personality and gives your model a 'soul'.I feel this makes the model more than worthy of being a piece of art as others have touched on.

    Kind Regards

Update - Masts stepped & mast tackles installed, using leftover hooks from a previous build. I will probably start on the shrouds next.

Thanks Michael - I managed to get all the masts assembled & all the main mast bindings installed.Since Fred at the museum said the main mast ropes were nailed in place I added some small nails to the rope ends, although they are hard to see in the picture.

Update - still working on the masts. All the platforms & cross trees are built. Now all I have to do is put all the masts together. The mast caps provided in the kit were English style square caps so I made my own rounded caps out of basswood & then stained everything to sort of match a little better. The iron straps holding the mast sections to the caps were made from copper strips & painted black. The pulleys on the sides of the masts are just short pieces of dowel - I did not bother to groove them as they will not be seen after the ropes going through them are in place. Foremast assembled - only 2 more masts & the bowsprit to go.

    Good analysis Nigel,

yep, I think that was the reason behind this interesting design. Also the actual props with each 6800 mm diam. run very close to the hull`s skin

Interesting stuff Nils.I can see why due to the slenderness of the hull why the designers wanted to keep the drivetrain as inboard as possible.Any further apart and the engines would have to move further forward resulting in very long propshafts.

Excellent work Nils This is the first time I have seen a keel cutout to accommodate the props.I wonder the designers reasoning behind this?It certainly adds an interesting feature to your model though

If your Royal Louis is planked with walnut on the bottom,I wouldn't recommend it Ulises. It tends to tear walnut rather than cutting it as the wood is too soft.I tried it once and it didn't work too well.

a little progress on the propshaft housing. The outer cladding is still to be sanded down to a smooth and smaller diameter

After planking these housings will get a smooth transition to the outer hull skin

port-side : all stringers are on

ready for fairing, (sanding) stringers and hull frames to smooth contours

Many thanks - David - John - Pete-,
    and all the "likes"

    David,
correct, it looks warped in that view. The reason is that I followed the deck level outer contours on the frames skin..... (see the enclosed side view pic, without me changing anything on that stringer)...

    John,
    Thanks for your words...

    Pete,
I`m happy that the propellers worked out OK.
As mentioned before, the propcircles are slightly overlapping within that window outcut (stagered in shaftlength)

    Build log part 6

Today I built two prop tubes 6 mm diam. with glide bearing bushings at both ends to take up the propshafts made from 3 mm round Brass bar.
some more stringers have been cut and most of them already brought on. Now the sub waterline streamline end claddings were shaped and dry fitted to place. For doing so I had to mount the shafts and the props to check out the clearance to the hull.....

dry fit of props and shafts

two more stringers will go to the port side

note the fastening screws for the frames, I set them to the outside for better access now

the propcircles go so close to the hull, there`s hardly 1/2 mm or less clearance

the base can be tuned to every desired way for all round access

the lines are extreme sharp and slim, just like the actual ship

the portions above the upper stringer line ( line of Promenade deck) will be cut off, when the hull is removed from the base later on

preparing for attaching the stingers to the frames

all frames are set and glued in. The cut out notches for the stringers are also done

there are three places, where the  3 stand M4 spindles go through keel and square bar. Some supporting ply bits prevent later distortion of keel when spindles are tightened to the stand

spindle fitted in and reinforcement cladding both sides to the keel

there are locking nuts M4 on the inside of ship (into the sqare bar)

bow post fitted in and beveled to angle where the later planking will lay on

Stern is also prepared for putting on stringers

the stringers have been cut with my hand- circular saw, (which I fitted as a table-saw) Then cut the 2 m long strips from a 5 mm thick plank. I wanted to have the stringers over the full ship length in one piece

    Ongoing framework.......

the frames shown in the pics before were all still plates without outcuts. Now nearly every frame will get some outcuts ( to allow access when fixing the stringers and later on the planking. Also all the notch-outcuts for the stringers are brought in.......
Also the reinforcement squarebar has become drilled borings  in three places for the stand`s spindles and the locking nuts

every frame is secured to the base with two srews (for easy removal, and bringing into position again)

the keel is now flush and interlocked with the frames

up to now no whether pins nor glue have been used on the framework (all only stuck together) . After the final check on all positions I will upply PA glue, to provide the strong hold

    Frames,
dry- fit of parts and marking for the stringer positions. Horizontaly the stringers will follow the individual deck-levels, although the lower decks will not be fitted later.

To my relief the frame outer contours are straking so well, that slight fairing touch can be done when the stringers are already permanently fit on.

The keel and bowpost comprise four 5mm thick plankparts made from beech. The frames will have an 5 mm wide outcut on the bottom centerline, allowing the keel to be placed appr. 8mm further down, when the appropriate slotted keel is nearly flush with the frames

the keel will come down appr. further 8mm, when the frames also get slotted

the keel, when interlocked with the frames, will then touch the reinforcement squarebar

here the markings for the stringer notches can be seen

some of the ply-frames are only 1,5 mm thick, I had fear that they might be too flimsy, but the will be stiffened out by the stringers afterwards.

    Today is keellaying day, ......
the base plate has been reinforced underneath, and is now absolutely flat, and first preliminary frame set up of 26 single removeable frames, to see how the contours are straking, and what amount oif fairing to the outer frame contours shall be necessary. Then the positions notches for the stringers will be checked resp. corrected, before they are cut out. Also the keel will be fitted in as well as the stern- and bow post areas. The strong "spine" can be clearly seen here. I`ll cut away many of the dead wood inside the frames, leaving only the convex deck beams and reinforcements where necessary, where visable decks will be fitted later on. The 6 mm dowels to resemble the propshafts will be replaced later with brass tubes. The different color of the frames is due to the use of leftover ply, I gathered over the years.
