Thanks mate! Yeah, well I enjoyed doing the heads and faces, but I'm happy to be done with those vertical lines below them. I look forward to have a go with pear someday.

I'm confused about the sig picture. It looks right on my smartpone, but not on the PC. I'll look into it.

Great work mate   They look good even if it wasn't your first go at carving.Lets face it,they aren't much larger than those preposterously small figures I carved for the prow of Sovereign.I bet you are glad they are behind you know though BTW what has happened to your signature picture,or is it just me that can't see it?

    Kind Regards

Phew, got the final knight finished. The last ones are a little better then the first ones but I decided not to redo them, but keep and remember them as my first go at carving.

It was a pleasure and very encouraging for me to share the making of this ship to all who like this 3-mast barque, and possibly it may encourage the one or other to consider it for their own build / Project list

I'm inclined to go with Nigel's view of the construction. That's how I've been interpreting it as well. Barring anything more definitive, that's how I'm going to build it.

STARTING WITH RIGGING OF THE SAILS

this is the so called "Flunder" (flounder) named so because of shape and look like the flounder platfish with fishbone Peaks all around the outer edge. This belaying pattern is a must for the Young cadets to learn by heart, the names of the belaying Points and to find the ropes, their nominations, first pick, by day and night.

NMBROOK got a reaction from Dimitris71 in Sovereign Of The Seas by NMBROOK - Scale 1/84 - based on the works of Van De Velde the elder
As I mentioned earlier, these next few stages are really slow.I have fitted the deck beam shelves and planked the inside of the hull on the starboard side, including lining the gunports. The framework of the entry port is in place, but this will have the carvings added at a later date, probably when I fit the channels as they sit on the middle channel.I had to reverse engineer the gunports to ascertain the deck levels which involved a great deal of headscratching, but it did 'prove' my gunports were correct. The internal planking has had several coats of poly applied in preparation for treenailing.I am using Dafi's(thank you Dafi) idea for drilling the holes inside.I have glued a drill into the end of a bamboo skewer so I can poke it through the gunports to drill the holes on the opposite internal face.I have given it a try and it works great, but it ain't no Dremel so I may be at it some time
    Kind Regards Nigel

    Hi Nils

Yes he is an 18month old Jack Russell. He is called Stanley and is the 'shipyard's' apprentice.Just got to teach him not to chew the building materials   .

I agree you have 'free reign' when not building from a kit,the hard part is that if you have very detailed drawings or pictures,is know what is not feasable at the given scale.I think you have achieved the balance perfectly

    Kind Regards

Thanks Mate!!!!!!!   I can add it to the 2000 lengths I already have discarded from kits Don't get me wrong, you can get a nice finish with paint on walnut, but because of the open grain,it is a lot more fill, sand, fill, sand, paint sand, paint sand etc.You get the idea
Thank you mate after jet washing the decking and myself in the process I shall now continue with the 'trim work'

    Hi Nigel,

I see you have a nice new member Icon, is that Little pal a Jack russel you have ? I have a 7 year old Fox Terrier.

I had so many ideas as to what Details could be added some became realism and some went to the bin, but not being a kit, the mind was free to adopt many Details from all the gathered photos I had saved on my PC.

Thanks for that Nigel.. I didn't know about them sanding differently or that the Walnut would interfere with the Maple WOW !!! (I am down to a couple of lengths of Maple, it was cut into 2 for posting so am only able to get one strake per go, unless I resort to various different lengths.. that said I have a few runs of the original 1st planking wood available so I shall continue with that)
Best of luck with the Ebony work

    Hi Eamonn
I would be tempted to go a little past the waterline as it reduces the chances of walnut dust impregnating the maple when sanding  .It sounds like a good excuse for not switching to the dreaded walnut yet   .If you have enough,I would be tempted to complete the job in maple as it is far easier to get a superior finish on this with paint, not only that, maple is much harder than walnut so they sand at different rates which may make the job a little harder.
Yes the trim is Ebony, but carved with a dentil detail, that bit is easy, shaping it to fit around the windows, not so

    Kind Regards
