NMBROOK got a reaction from egkb in HM Schooner Ballahoo by egkb - FINISHED - Caldercraft - 1:64 Scale - First Proper Wood Build
Hi mate
Looking forward to the camera footage Interesting about the deck, try pressing a fingernail into one of your maple offcuts, then try on the end of a deck plank, you will soon tell as maple is rock hard compared to lime. What to do is a bit of a conundrum,I would weigh up whether you will be replacing decking material on your other builds and if so will it be the same width planks. To order replacement timber for just this build is going to kill you with postage,it will be more than the timber I should imagine I always try to get a large order together for timber, even if it means getting stuff I may not need for months.
Kind Regards
NIgel

Hi Matti
You are probably unaware as you were away.We had hard drive issues on the site over the weekend. This has resulted in the loss of some pictures on build logs mainly posted around June/July time last year.I have a gap in images on my Sovereign log.I think this may have been the cause with your signature
Kind Regards
Nigel.

NMBROOK got a reaction from rafine in Frigate Essex by Rafine - FINISHED - Model Shipways - Kitbashed
Thanks Bob,great minds think alike Seriously though, always good to get someone else's opinion when the drawing information is a 'grey' area.Lets face it,it would have been all too easy and no fun if they had included an isometric sketch of the stove sat on the deck
Kind Regards

Thanks mate! Yeah, well I enjoyed doing the heads and faces, but I'm happy to be done with those vertical lines below them. I look forward to have a go with pear someday.
I'm confused about the sig picture. It looks right on my smartpone, but not on the PC. I'll look into it.

NMBROOK got a reaction from NAZGÛL in Wasan 1628 by Nazgul - FINISHED - Billing Boats Vasa 1:75
Great work mate They look good even if it wasn't your first go at carving.Lets face it,they aren't much larger than those preposterously small figures I carved for the prow of Sovereign.I bet you are glad they are behind you know though BTW what has happened to your signature picture,or is it just me that can't see it?
Kind Regards
Nigel

Phew, got the final knight finished. The last ones are a little better then the first ones but I decided not to redo them, but keep and remember them as my first go at carving.

It was a pleasure and very encouraging for me to share the making of this ship to all who like this 3-mast barque, and possibly it may encourage the one or other to consider it for their own build / Project list
THANK YOU

and scrubbed

Thanks Nigel, Sam and Thomas.
I'm inclined to go with Nigel's view of the construction. That's how I've been interpreting it as well. Barring anything more definitive, that's how I'm going to build it.

sorry, the first 4 pics come in .Bmp Formate, I was`nt able to Transfer them into .Jpg Formate.
If you do a right mouse click on, the new opening interactive window bar requires pressing the "open " button in order to get the pic....

together with the "flounder" scheme These 4 scetches provide mainly the belaying Points for the actual ships and the models functional running rigging

Build log part 48
STARTING WITH RIGGING OF THE SAILS
this is the so called "Flunder" (flounder) named so because of shape and look like the flounder platfish with fishbone Peaks all around the outer edge. This belaying pattern is a must for the Young cadets to learn by heart, the names of the belaying Points and to find the ropes, their nominations, first pick, by day and night.
Sheets of the 4 jib sails
mizzen mast sails
the Sheets are guided on forecastle deck

NMBROOK got a reaction from Dimitris71 in Sovereign Of The Seas by NMBROOK - Scale 1/84 - based on the works of Van De Velde the elder
As I mentioned earlier, these next few stages are really slow.I have fitted the deck beam shelves and planked the inside of the hull on the starboard side, including lining the gunports. The framework of the entry port is in place, but this will have the carvings added at a later date, probably when I fit the channels as they sit on the middle channel.I had to reverse engineer the gunports to ascertain the deck levels which involved a great deal of headscratching, but it did 'prove' my gunports were correct. The internal planking has had several coats of poly applied in preparation for treenailing.I am using Dafi's(thank you Dafi) idea for drilling the holes inside.I have glued a drill into the end of a bamboo skewer so I can poke it through the gunports to drill the holes on the opposite internal face.I have given it a try and it works great, but it ain't no Dremel so I may be at it some time
Kind Regards Nigel
