Hi Nigel, Bob, Michael and Ben

Many thanks for all of your comments and for those who hit the Like button as well.

Michael-thanks for your question. The hull material is Evergreen styrene sheet, which is light, thin and seems perfect for the job. Hope this helps.

Nigel-welcome aboard and thanks for your well wishes, too.

    Cheers

Finished.Finally. Well, I finished up by rigging the anchors & finishing the running rigging. Not sure about some of the belaying points but I think it passes the galloping horse test . Sorry I was not a little more descriptive of some of the work but sometimes I get going on something & forget to take pictures.A lot of modifications were made but I think the end result was worth the effort. I would like to thank everyone for looking in & posting all the generous comments & hitting the like button. I will try to put a few more pics in the gallery. Now for the hard part - trying to decide what to build next .

    Thanks always for the likes and for dropping by;

Nigel -- Go for the "full" version. How many times have we all bought something only to then realize that the next step up would have been a better choice. In your case Nigel, you are such a master builder IMO go for the one that you "really" want.

Ferit, thanks so much BUT as I have mentioned before when I first joined MSW you were one of my teachers. You taught me about super detailing cannon carriages, rigging, as well as recommending the BEST rigging glue (G-S Hypo) I will always be thankful about this tip. We miss your Berlin updates.

Excellent work Michael You have obviously mastered the lathe now as well as the mill I am still sat on the fence as to whether to buy the Proxxon or go all out and buy a metal capable lathe. If I buy the wood one,I will still want a metal turning one

    Hi everyone

I'm back!!! Thanks for all the well wishes-greatly appreciated!

Well, over the past couple of nights, I was able to use the wooden plug as the mould for Majellan's hull. The results are below, which show the rough hull removed from the plug. Please note that it looks rough and messy, only because it is! Next job is to sand all the putty off, add the transom, etc, etc.

Lots of work to go, but it's good to at least get back to building again.

    Thanks

    Patrick

    Hi everyone

Many thanks for all of your comments and Likes! Greatly appreciated!

Tonight, I've continued to work on the hull...more sanding, more puttying, more shaping, etc, etc, etc. I hope I've been true to Ben's suggestions about the flare in the bow and the overall underwater's shape. If not, it's not too late to still work on it.

    Anyhow, here's the results!

    Cheers and thanks

    Hi everyone

I'm very grateful for all your comments and Likes. Keep'em coming, because it keeps me going!

Tonight, I've had a go at carving the wooden hull, based upon the clay mock up and advice from Ben and Bill. Here are some photos of the rough job so far. Heaps more sanding, patching and sanding and patching (you know the drill) to go. But at least it's a start.

Hope you're all well and all the best!

    Cheers

    Hi everyone
As I don't have any actual hull plans for Majellan's hull I'm building, I'm relying mainly on photos of other similar sized modern luxury yachts on the Internet.  Many of these modern motor yachts have very unusual underbodies. In fact, they're far from the graceful and streamlined beauties that you'd expect.  Instead, they're quite angular and, dare I say it, ugly underneath (well, to my mind, anyway)!

As a means of overcoming the lack of detailed plans, I decided to do a clay mock-up of what I think the hull could look like, using the examples of Internet photos I've seen.  Once I'm happy with what I've come up with, I'll then use the mock-up as a guide to carve the wooden hull.

The clay mock-up can be seen in the photos below.  There's still a long way to go before I'm happy with its shape, but it's a start.

    Cheers

    Patrick

    Hi everyone

Today I actually started on Magellan's hull.  As mentioned before, I intend to fully fitout Magellan's interior accommodation; all four decks of it.  How I intend to do this is by allowing each deck to be lifted off so that the interior can be viewed.  Talk about a challenge!!!  Oh well, if you don't try, nothing would be achieved.

So, without further ado, the photos below show the start of the hull.  It may not look like much, but, hopefully it'll turn into one hell of a beauty!  A very long way to go, of course...

    Wish me luck!

    Cheers

    Hi folks

As I'm fast approaching the completion of my current model, "Symphony", now's a good time to reveal my next project - a miniature model of a 37 metre luxury motor yacht, which I will name "Majellan". The plans will be loosely based on an existing ship, whose plans I found using using Google.

The model will have a fully detailed interior (well, as much as I can replicate at this tiny size, anyway)! Majellan's interior layout consists of the following decks:

    -Lower Deck;
    -Main Deck;
    -Upper Deck; and
    -Sun Deck.

The profile of the ship is provided below:

I hope to commence construction as soon as I can figure out how to build the darn thing!! Talk about a challenge.

If you're able to, I'd love it if you could please join me on Magellan's journey.

    Cheers

    Patrick

    Hi All,

Again, thanks for all the comments and likes everyone..

It has been slow going as I learn, but I've made a little  progress on the rigging.  All the double blocks for the shrouds have been seized to the eyebolts ready for attaching to the chainplates. Hard to tell from the pictures, but the top of the mainmast shrouds were then served where they wrap over one of the metal crossbars at the top of the mast.  Finally, before tightening the shrouds, pairs of single blocks were attached to the mast using the other crossbar. These pairs of blocks will be used later when the sails are added.

Now on to complete the fore and mizzen mast shrouds...hopefully this will go a bit faster!

    Cheers,

    Nigel.

    Hi All,

Thanks again for all the kind comments and of course for the likes.

Well, I finally managed to complete the cannons. Tackles used Syren 2mm blocks, 4mm hooks and 0.008in rope; breaching lines were 0.025in rope, combined some 4mm hooks and rings. An anchor bend was used to attach the breaching ropes to the rings and the tackles were tied off to Syren boxwood cleats. Overall, I am pretty happy with how the cannons turned out and I'm glad I managed to use the 2mm blocks. You can see how large a 4mm block looks in the first image.

I also attached and rigged the anchor I made a few posts back.  An anchor bend was again used to tie the 0.025in rope to the ring and I made up a walnut support so I could tie down the anchor.

I need to do some touch up here and there on the metal work which has lost some finish and then it is time to start the standing rigging!

Thanks for reading and images below.

    Cheers,

    Nigel.

    Hi All,

Thanks for the more kind comments and of course for the likes.  Support is really appreciated.

So, a little more progress as the tiller rigging has been redone using the 3mm Syren blocks.  Glad I did this as I think the 3mm blocks work better than the 4 mm blocks I used before.

I also glued down the gallery stairs and support posts. Stair rigging was completed in the same way as the tiller except the lines were tied off to one of Chuck's cleats.  Overall I am pretty happy with these first tries given I am starting on the rigging learning curve.   Next up are the cannons!

    Thanks for reading!

    Cheers,

    Nigel.
