    Yo DB.....I cut my own deck planks (Jim saw) out of some maple pieces I acquired at the now closed (here anyway) Woodcraft shop. Turned our quite IMO.

    I'm going back and try to finish my Speedy. However, I cannot find any sheets before #8. Model is built up to and including the deck. I've also finished foremast, main many, and bowsprit....no spars jibs booms etc. If you still have your plans, which plan sheet(s) include these? I am, hopefully, going to try to obtain those from Vanguard. Thanks in advance.

    Wasn't quite sure where to put this, but here goes: A couple years ago, I stopped my build of Vanguard's Speedy. At that point, I had gotten to the point where I had made the two masts and the bowsprit. Next step was going to be spars and then rigging. The parts size were getting the best of me so I decided to take a break from this build for while. While this break was longer than I anticipated, I just redid my workspace and decided to finish the Speedy. However, it has acquired a considerable amount of dust. Any sugestions on removing it?

    Ended up inserting and gluing a large sewing needle into a wood dowel. I think this will do the trick, and I had both laying around. We'll see how it works. Thanks to all. I hereby award Gregory a "Solve" pin.

    Looking for one that will last/ Plenty of very inexpensive ones on Amazon, but I worry the tip won't stay sharp for long. Any suggestions?

    I am now rigging Vanguard's Erycina. I'm not wild about the photo etched brass belaying pins supplied. I am looking to replace these with wood ones. The kit is 1/64 scale, and I don't to buy pins too large for the ship's scale. Any recommendations?

    Here's a pic of my Occre Dos Amigos hull (not complete) which I did in cherry. I got the wood from the local (now closed) Woodcraft, and cut with my Jim saw. After sanding I applied a few coats of gun oil. The cherry was good to work with a turns a bit darker with age.
