    Augie,
Your secret is safe with all 2,300 members.  No one will tell me. On the brightside, a month ago it would have been over 16,000.  Not sure some of them would have kept quiet.

9 pounds? That's a lot of rodent - but nowhere near a Capybara, of course (now that's surely too much rodent for anyone!)

Well, here goes……my first nervous steps into the world of the scratch build! This will be my second model and as such, I think POB is a wiser choice. Maybe the next build will be POF, but that’s in the distant future.

I really have admired the beautiful and ornate galleons of the 17th and 18th centuries and was finding it a hard decision as to which one to build. The problem was solved when I received the plans for the San Felipe. They were 1:75 and I changed the scale to 1:96 so it would not take up as much real estate in our home and thus be displayed more easily. I know it will be more challenging to achieve the detail I want at this scale, but I will give it my best and am sure I will have help along the way from the talented and knowledgeable members here!

While researching the San Felipe, I stumbled upon some doubt as to whether she really existed or not. My conclusion is this: I am satisfied that the evidence for both sides of the debate is sketchy at best, so I have no solid reason to believe she didn’t exist. At any rate, I feel she is a wonderful and beautiful example of the Spanish galleon of her time – real or not!

Here is some of the history I have found on her:
The SAN FELIPE, launched in 1690, was one of the most beautiful Spanish galleons of the XVII century. She was the lead ship of the famous Spanish Armada and able to take on the most formidable ships in the French and British navies. The San Felipe's was used in the war against the British and French to protect Spanish settlements and harbors, to transport treasures, and to safeguard the long and hazardous passage back to Spanish ports. In 1705, she participated in a furious and heroic battle between 12 Spanish ships and 35 British ships. After 24 hours of battle, she was captured by an English ship, but was so badly damaged that she could not be salvaged as a prize. She went down to the bottom of the ocean with several tons of gold.

The story goes that the ship model is based on reconstruction drawings published by the Italian Vincenzo Lusci in 1966 who referred to some 19th century Spanish historian. Lusci described the San Felipe as a first rate ship with 104 - 110 cannon that was launched in La Coruna in 1690 and was lost in 1705 after a battle with 35 English ships.

If someone posts something that is copyright...we are really good about that.  We almost immediately remove it.  I am not worried about that.  Most folks are reasonable and after talking to the original author we would certainly remove it.  Its folks stealing stuff that hard to deal with...But my uncle said its real easy....he starts with the pinkies.

Thats not needed...most folks are good people.  They wouldnt do those things.  Those that would.....these types of agreements wouldnt matter.  If you post anything on the internet...beware of where it may end up.  Its really simple.  There is no way to protect yourself from crooks and evil people.  If you post any documents make sure you list your name and copyright.  Other then that...posting is open for all that "suck" to do their selfish deeds.  I have seen so many people ripped off (including myself) it is painful.   But those that are caught will be banned immediately from this site.

We bought our Dremel workbench at our local hardware store.  It's really handy.
I'm sure you will be able to find/buy it in the USA.
Just search for the EAN code: 8710364046584

When you get started with the San Felipe, give me a call.
Difficult this way because you can not call me.
Ok, in other words, give me a signal
And save a seat at the front row for me.

I am glad to have made it back!............glad to see the Stag did as well.   thankfully people talk....or I wouldn't have known when MSW was back online.   I couldn't use the bookmark I have,  so I had to do a search in order to reconnect with the site.......just got in tonight.

it's so sad to see the library so bare
gone is the content that used to be there
it was like taking a walk on the longest pier
to view all the ships that used to be here

through all the effort,  of all that are friend
will whittle away,  in an effort to mend
the void that was created, by the electronic foe
back to the greatest site,  that we used to know

    it's not much,  but I threw this together for you folks at MSW...........we'll get her back ship shape Sir{s}
