KeithAug got a reaction from Canute in Need Copper Plating for Amati Vanguard - HELP!
Glenn
Cornwall Model Boats sell Amati plating - http://www.cornwallmodelboats.co.uk/acatalog/amati-copper-plates.html. But it seems to me that if you had little waste you should expect more to be supplied free of charge.

Update....
the first promenade deck cabin section is so far complete....
the handrails worked out fine, was easier than I thought it to be......, and this time the railholders had flattened ends before bending the holding loop for the rail was bent, (thanks to suggestion of member "Reklein", Bill in Idaho )

KeithAug reacted to mtaylor in Licorne 1755 by mtaylor - 3/16" scale - French Frigate - from Hahn plans - Version 2.0 - TERMINATED
Thanks for the "likes" and the comments. I'm still re-fairing the inside of the hull as time permits. Been a hectic week.
Martin,
I'll answer the first question first... The jig is actually a beam (the master beam) I made during Version 1.0. I checked the curvature against the new beams for exactness. After gluing it down, on the jig board, I ran a milling head through it so the sander would fit. It may not be pretty but it works.
I take you have even the smaller mill that was discontinued then? Metric..on most of these mini's seems to be standard. Mine use the 4mm size which is NOT what I'd call standard when every other mini-mill uses 12mm. Also, the slots don't match any other mills (even MM's R8 Mill) which made/makes tooling a problem.
Yes, getting the standard clamps to fit has been an ongoing issue. I have mine Mickey Mouse-d to work with nuts, washers, added screws, etc. Even a piece of wood off the "stern" of the clamp to help lock things down.
I've been giving thought to going to a different mill.. maybe this one: http://www.littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=4962&category=1387807683 It's the same one MM sells but with shipping, there's not much price difference at least out here in Oregon.
But, being "frugal" (ok.. the Admiral thinks I'm cheap but only on some things) I'm in a hold mode. I guess I'm waiting for an excuse...like HMS Visa being able to return to the line of battle.

Note to anyone viewing this due to the content of panart hms victory 1/78 I hit a massive breakthrough today by talking with mantua uk they where very helpful with my problem of where to belay the sails and after they themselves spending a few hrs figuring out and speaking to the Italians discovered there is a additional plan not supplied with kit available to purchase plan sheet 8a showing the belaying points of the sails and a side view with the stay sails . I thought I would share this for anyone building this particular kit as this is the first hurdle I have came across I could not solve and this may be very usefull to anyone building the same kit

Hello Steve - for a first model it looks impressive. One of the first things I learned was that primarily the model had to please me. So if your model isn't accurate in a few details it does not matter, unless it matters to you. Most MSW shipmates will provide praise, help, encouragement and advice without being critical, unless you specifically request it. The best advice I can give is keep building - you will find your models getting better and better. Welcome aboard.

I thought I'd add a couple pictures of the sanding jig. The dark brown curve is just a piece of wood the same dimensions and arc as the beam. Currently it's set up for the top of the beam. If I rotate it 180 degees, I'll be able to to the bottom of the beam. The sanding drum is turning about 5000 rpm and barely touching the wood, but two passes and the wood is clean and the slight angle on the cut edge left by the laser cutter is removed.

Thanks for the "likes" and comments.
I'm going to consider this Gaetan. Not blowing it off at all. I'm just not sure if I can pull this off in wood at this point. Partly my brain is mush and partly because the wood gets very delicate. I'll ponder photo etch and other alternatives while I proceed on with a few things less fiddly.
The dedication plaque... simple to make, but for my lady, it has meaning. So.. down deep in the hold, behind the main mast is where it will go. Maybe, if the model is around.. sometime in the future, someone might see fit to peek inside with an endoscope. Probably not, but I know and Janet knows (and you guys know) it's there.
I guess enough of the "mushy" stuff... diving deep into the bowels of the ship to start the lower deck.

I bought some photo etch letters quite some time ago from Model Expo. A quick Google for photo etch letters yields a number of hits.
