Keel klamper alternative
zamboknee replied to zamboknee's topic in Modeling tools and Workshop Equipment
Thanks guys. lots to digest here. leaning towards the Stanley clamp/vise as we’re still working on the hull. any other suggestions are still appreciated. thanks again -
Is there a more affordable alternative to the Keel Klamper? Looking to get something (make?) that'll hold the ship in place while working on it. Thank you

Where does everyone store there build when they're not working on it? We don't have the luxury of leaving the ship build and it's items just sitting out in the open so need some ideas on storing it all in one place. Any suggestions would be cool. Thanks

Good advice. A couple follow up questions: 1-What is this tool used for anyway? Or is it just a failed idea for a tool? 2-My plank nails are .5mm in diameter. What diameter drill bit and drill would you recommend? Thanks
-
Probably a dumb question but how do you use this tool? http://shop.excelblades.com/p/nail-setter Wife and I are still trying to figure out how to use this in getting nails in planks. More accurately, into planks and then frame.

Would wetting this piece affect the integrity of the glue that's already holding the planks to the deck? Also, would the rubber bands leave indentations in the wet deck?

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
