I can certainly see where you wouldn't need the fittings kit........your past 'iron works' definitely shows your abilities well hopefully, we will see a log on her in the future.

dragzz reacted to Intasiabox in King of the Mississippi by Intasiabox - Artesania Latina - 1:80 - first build
Thank-you, I did learn one thing on the first of the planking. Those 5mm wide strips vary a bit in width and I should have kept all of the pieces I chopped from each full length plank together. It would have saved me a bit of filing on some strips already glued to the deck and trying to match the same width strips later.

I don't know about this particular boat, but Billings is one of the oldest kit makers in the business. On the plus side, most of their kits are really accurate and faithful to the original. On the minus side, the kit materials are rather cheap - the wood is ply, and the fittings are plastic. Most other kit manufacturers include much better wood and fittings. There is nothing more ugly on a model than unpainted plastic, so make sure you paint it

dragzz reacted to Harmstronginga in HMS Victory by dragzz - Corel - scale 1/98
This morning looking at the model I realized the some of the gun mounts are away from basic supports. I was wondering if when you cut the planking for the gun holes would the necessary support be there. I am thinking that a vertical support might be required around the edge of the opening. The opening is about 10 mm sq plus framing. What do you think?
I value your opinion as you model looks great.
