I've had family and friends staying since May both at my house and in the village Ferit - it's great to have time with my grandchildren and help them enjoy their holiday. With people in the house I have to convert my work room into a bedroom and spend what would normally be hobby time doing other things like swimming, snorkeling, and eating out (no-one wants to cook when they come to visit, why is that?). But my house is now empty . . .

Despite it's charms, Turunç is quiet this year with tourist numbers down. Some of my friends will suffer a bit I think.

Many thanks, Nigel and Mark, your thoughts are much appreciated...
Nigel and Mark, I can easily say, that comparing with my rigging, yours will not make you be happy but I'm sure you will be in rapture when that day comes...
I know you and I am lucky to follow your Logs, it's a pleasure to behold, to contemplate, to learn...

    And fantastic...
You are inspiring me to begin to try to make some carvings even if I will fail most likely...

I haven't posted on your build for a long time Ferit but don't think that I have been ignoring you. I look in at every new post.

Your Berlin is looking magnificent and you should be very proud of your achievements so far. You have done some beautiful work on her. Like all your watchers I know that the rest of the rigging will be perfect. Çok akıllı örümcekler!

Lol! I can't get anything past you guys. I can't remember where I got that 13" penny, but you have to admit, it's still a challenge to make a knife when your hands are nearly 11 feet long!

Kevin, this is a brilliant investment... After a weighty period of webbing, rigging; as Victory is a hulking ship with countless ropes everywhere, your spiders will be full masters... If after those hard and painful time, they will overcome and survive, you can sell them, your master spiders, on e-bay at high prices...

Superb rigging on a superb model.   Excellent work, Ferit.  I'm envious.  If I can do half as good on my Licorne, I'll be happy.

Hey all, did all the towers. Also painted them. Because of the different materials I had to put on a thicker basecoat of red on them to get them looking uniform. To give them scale and make the surface more vibrant I used black washes and then light drybrushing.

Now I can start with the details and sculptures for them.

Wow, nearly a month has gone by! I've made 2 trips to Colorado, finished up my last projects at my Wichita job and have been packing and working on the house. This move feels almost like an impossible task because we've aquired so much stuff. I tell my wife that I'm a collector but she's a pack rat! To be fair though, my stuff is bigger and harder to move than her sewing and craft stuff (getting the bandsaw out of the basement was a bear!) I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed and decided to take a boat break the second half of today.

Although there is no mention of a boat's knife in the Artesania Latina plans, the Model Expo "To Build a Whaleboat" book shows the making of one for the New Bedford Whaleboat kit. I thought it would be fun to make a little knife so I shaped a knife blank from a piece of tin sheet that I found at the hardware store. The knife is patterned and scaled on a 15" Bowie knife.

Cow bone is often used to make to make nuts and saddles for acoustic guitars and I thought it would be cool to make a bone handle for the knife. Luckily, since I'm a pack rat - I mean collector, I saved some bone sadle cut-offs. Little handle blanks were slabbed out of the scrap.

I managed to get one side attached and drilled for pinning. Next time I need a boat break, I'll try to finish it.

    Best wishes,
