Ferit got a reaction from hamilton in HMS Blandford by hamilton - FINISHED - from Corel HMS Greyhound - 1:100
Hi Hamilton,
She looks powerful...
Do you think to rig the gun carriages and to make red long oars as in the photo from the museum?...

Thanks again Ferit for your kind words As regards the time, you may be right which is why I am trying to do some as the build goes along. The thought of completing the hull and then starting the carvings from scratch would terrify me.I have seen the high standard of your work and I think producing carvings is not beyond your ability.I suggest you find a piece of pear or boxwood and give it a try,you never know you might surprise yourself!
Kind Regards Nigel

Hello,
Here is another "retro-update". I decided to remove the original, kit included, stairs so that I could replicate more closely what has been installed on the 1:1 in Stockholm.
The pics are self-explanatory (the first pic was my original installation). I purchased two sets of stairs and glued the step's vertical timbers together so that I could then reshape them with the curves.
The Stockholm Vasa ladders are, I think, new so I assume (that word again) that the museum historians copied ladders that were in use at the time that included those curves. I also noticed that some of the 1:1 photos have a curved deck cutout at the top of the stairs, so I did some cutting and fixing as well.
My center area between the two ladders is incorrect, but too late to deal with that. I may add some kind of figurine details on that center wall. Hmmmm
Moving on I will now start on the bow figures. They will be painted similarly to my stern figures. With these figures I will attempt to add some sort of slim framing that I see on the 1:1 photos. I have to think about how to do this.
Again, I so appreciate, and I am certainly motivated with your kind posts as well as those of you whom are kind enough to just visit this build in progress. Thanks everyone.
Regards,
Michael

I have fitted the carving.I have used aluminium tube 8mm long to replicate the lead lining that was used in the hawse holes. The bores have been countersunk to remove the corner. On to the other side now

As I have a guide now with eye and nasal holes in place,I proceeded to add contour to the skull using a scalpel blade and shaving extremely small chips away, slowly slowly is very much the name of the game.I also added a little shape to the eye sockets and nasal cavity using the tip of a new blade in the scalpel and a pointed dental probe. The spine detail has been added at the bottom with the scalpel.

The next step was to increase the definition around the sides of the skull.I have drilled 0.4mm holes as a start point for the eye sockets and nasal cavity. The crutial point is the nasal cavity is central top to bottom in the skull otherwise the proportions will be incorrect.I have also started chipping away at the hairline and I am introducing some rounding to the head. The next step is the cheekbone area which is the main difference between a skull and a face
Kind Regards Nigel

Sanding, touch-up filling, and re-opening the gunports is just starting move along. I've hit it with 220 grit and I'll follow up with 320 and possibly 600 once the gunports are proper. I'm pretty happy with the planking so far. Photo is without flasha and colors look pretty close to what I see.

Ferit. I just don't know what to mention that I like most of your build... but I'll try anyway: Your cleanliness. Everything looks so cleanly made. How you modified and built the doors and windows; the rigging of your deck cannons, your ratlines... man you are doing a tremendous job there. You are making a jewel out of a relatively unknown kit.
My congratulations.

good afternoon from a wet thundery Somerset
well i have an idea just how big this build is going to get with the stbd lower stun boom now having a home, although it just lifts out to be put away for a year or so
the fore mast lower boom is the next on the production line
all four anchors are also made, just to make up/experiment making the banding around the stock
i have also remade the stbd cat head after the last Murphy visit - i basicly fitted it at 90 degs to the hull, where as it is angled forward

I see that I missed all the fun by reaching the 100 page
Firework is over and only empty bottles…...
The only thing that's left is the dishes….
Well, let me take my responsibility and go to the kitchen.
Then everyone can recover !
Nice record Augie !

Ulises,
Welcome back!! Nice to see you posting again.
As I've mentioned before your rigging work is so so excellent. The ship is looking great. AND thanks for that link for the deadeyes, and rope. Ferit, of course, has an amazing eye for details, and he saw that the deadeyes were excellent. I will purchase from them.
Regards,
MIchael

Hi Nigel,
Carving is an another dimension and you are walking there, on your shoes of perfection...
Are you thinking to make all your own carvings of your SoS?

Thanks to ZyXuz and mtaylor - I'm glad you like it
I finished the belfry. I was a little angry at that, but in the end it looks pretty good. The most difficult was the production of the upper arch for me.

Hi,
I continue to upload some photos. I work a little messy, dusty...
The kit didn't contain yellow wooden strips, I bought them from market.

Hi,
I begin to try to form my build log and to upload first photos of my Frigate Berlin. I have not any experience to do these and I expect to succeed.
The pixel quality is low but it will be better.
In fact, I have begun this kit app. ten years ago, after 6-7 months of working on, I have left it at somewhere in my house. But whenever I saw it, I was feeling a fever to start again... Year 2010, then I overcame...
The photos I have taken are belonging to the second period of my work. These photo are test for uploading...
See you soon...
