    Hi johnhoward

Thank you and Cher for that, once more some new views from the engines. Especially the first three pics show the engines from another angle, I`ve never seen in any forum or website! There will be some differencies in my build, due to the conditions for sailing the ship by RC. But most of the components of the engines will be really close to the original one!
Meanwhile I made the drawings and .stl files for the paddlewheel bearing blocks, they will be 3D printed. This saves a lot of working time, and makes it easier to work with.

All measurings on the drawings are in 1/10th mm!

Regarsd; and thank you all for watching!

Today I found time for the comparison of the carriages, my version fits almost to the drawings johnhoward showed earlier. It`s a matter of a few 1/10mm so I will lwt it as it is.
The red drawn parts show how I made them.

Has been some days till my last report, heer comes the news. I could set some timbers to the inner structure, just to make the walls look a bit better than they were from plywood. Cut a lot of 2 x 3 mm pinewood strips, and glued them to the walls. And I made 2 crossways from port to starboard, there I used 5 x 5 mm pine wood.

Timbers glued into the gas tank room

All internal walls related to the engine compartement are glued in, all unnecessary frame parts are cut away.

The crossways from port to starboard side

Thank you for watching, and comments or critics too!
    Regards

Well, she's entering her 97th year.  She's the last of the Puget Sound steamers, and still has her original engine.  She was built by Matt Anderson in his backyard for West Pass Transportation Company.  She did the Seattle-Vashon Island-Tacoma run for eighteen years, before being taken down to run on the Columbia for a year.  From then until around 1980 she worked as a charter vessel, then becoming a museum ship.

The engine is older than the ship.  The engine is triple expansion and was built in 1904 by Heffernan Engine Works of Seattle.  It was originally installed in a vessel known as the Tyrus, which, when bought by WPTCo., was renamed Virginia IV.

We still go out; made over 70 trips last year.

I guess, from here, what do you want to know?  I can tell you in detail how to bring the plant up, but just be warned that I am not a very exciting writer.

The photos are the 1922 maiden voyage, 1935, a week ago (with my cell phone as I didn't have any other camera), and me fighting with the vacuum pump.

For the rivets I found only this photograph from the original boat
from http://cdn.silodrome.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/06/Baby-Bootlegger-30-Bragg.jpg, the rows of rivets appear as dark points in the shadow

And one more from a model, made in Germany. Here are the rivets good to see, and the pattern seems to be close to the pattern from the photograph above. Pic comes from http://www.miniwerft.de/die-miniwerft/modelle-im-bau/

    Hey popeye

    Thank you for condolences!
BUT: There is no bad without a good....................
We have got part of inheritance, so my admiral has some new stuff, and I have a brand new 3D printer to build, and some extra money for different materials to buy. And there is still father-in- law`s car to sell, more stuff to get for us all . Sound a bit greedy, but things are to be done!

    Best regards

USS St. Louis update for April 2018
Seven of our original 9 Shipcrafter build team gathered to commemorate our 3.5 year milestone on our City Class "USS St. Louis" Ironclad Project and the departure of Scott, third from the left, upon his retirement to Wisconsin.  Scott will continue support of the project, remotely in his original research capacity.
One of our main accomplishments this month was fabrication and successful dry-fit of the "Hog Chains" which span from the aft end of the wheelhouse on the port & starboard keels to the forward face of the boiler/firebox. The "chains" are actually a combination of cables, solid links and turnbuckles, modeled after those recovered with the USS "Cairo". They fit in a remarkably confined space within the hull structure, penetrate the roofs of the "Hurricane" deck houses, and are supported on four stanchions "footed" on the engine room floor.  Another dry-fit of the completed paddlewheel successfully resolved several minor issues. Tom displayed his initial brass machinings for each of the 5 different types of cannon barrels which will make up the 14 cannon carried on the USS St. Louis at the end of September 1862 which our model represents.
Completed details of the "Hurricane Deck" were assembled to verify spacing with the new "Hog Chains". Initial sketches have been made for fabrication of our "Doctor" Auxiliary Steam Engine which was lost during the "USS Cairo" recovery. Materials are being gathered for this interesting mechanical contrivance. Bill has continued modeling of the  insulated steam distribution and exhaust system. Ten of the 13 wooden Naval cannon carriages were dry-fit at their gundeck stations. The 14th carriage, which will be brass, is for the 12-pdr Boat Howitzer and will be carried on the "Hurricane" deck.

    Hi Friends

    Thank you so much!
I`ll be back in hopefully short time, and then continue with my builds. At the time I`ve just too much other things to handle, and received my 3D-Printer this past week, so I have something to do, and not to think too much about all that mess.....................

    Hi Carl

Sorry for missing attention, there were a lot of hard times for me and my admiral Sabina. Admirals dad died from cancer in his bladder, admiral herself has suffered pneumonia and is still not at 100% fit, so there is some more time to spend forher  recreaction. Model making has to have a break till everything is back to normality.....................
BUT: The CAIRO and all the other projects are not cancelled, just waiting!
    Best regards
