    The under deck features done, I fabricated a tube for the bits where there will be open hatches. I can now put the deck on and start working in the rest of the PE which I can’t do before the deck is down.

    Todays work, the brass straps on the funnel. This replaces the molded kit plastic braces.

    Part of the build is a retractable to T fold down chimney / air intake. The blue bits are aftermarket 3D prints to show some interior depth. There is a lot of work to do yet as there are PE braces for the actual tubes. This will sit inside the deck.

    @Dutch HWSI hope this makes sense, there are ladders on the sides and to the rear as well as internally at the front (centre) down to the ships wheel.

    So day 1, hull joined up. Will only require a very small amount of fill and sanding

    I could pretty much completely finish the build on this kit in a day, so for a scale comparison to my last (unfinished) build Roma, I’m going to have to use a rattle can to prime it for sure.

    The PE set. It’s a very simple build but the detail at this scale is amazing and allows for a great weathering exercise

    I got this for over half price from a model club member, so it justified getting the photoetch from Eastern Europe.

    And now the cabinet is full so back to the bookshelf

    So this build is pretty much done, I added 1mm scuttles to the smaller drilled out portholes. Tiny ! They look OK, but I came up 16 short (trumpeter put too many in not Micromaster so I’ll need some more) and later in the year new AA guns.

    So the stash, I want to do the Maru with subs nesting against her, but I’ll probably do the U9 next as I got it very cheap, enough to justify the PE upgrades

    I had a Fritz x bomb printed 1/35 in 3D earlier in the year for the base. The bloke who made them had a misprint so he sent me that as well which was easy to fix with some plastic card. I thought about weathering them but it’s kinda pointless as the ones in museums are all very old and the contemporary ones would have been pristine. A very successful weapon. I’m trying to get out to the Australian war memorial annexe to take a photo of the ship with the real bomb.

    IJN green with a lighter green overspray to bring out the details then a dry brush with a very light green

    The propellers were also replaced

    Well, you could always fly off!

    Nearly done, if you zoom in You can see the little side scuttle, I’ve got about 160 to add plus the ships planes.

    No idea why, but they removed all the ships boats before going into battle.

    Now the Micromaster lift rafts, the details are amazing and make the kit ones look like blobs
